    Morning all,

been a while...weather has not been celebrated recently...hopefully the cooler months will bring more joy to us all.

The first Victorian Alpine Discussion is up now
    http://www.stormchasers.au.com/current.htm

We have now 2 online weather stations in Trentham updating every 5 minutes (700 - 705m) in the central ranges of Victoria, and observations from Woodend have ceased (cos I moved to Trentham)

Groves Street (in the central part of Trentham - 700m - exposed to the south)
    http://trentham.bsch.au.com/1Trentha/Current_Vantage_Pro.htm

Gunyah Bend (just to the NE of Trentham - 705m - protected to the south)
    http://trentham.bsch.au.com/GunyahBe/Current_Vantage_Pro.htm

Cheers and happy snow to you all,

    Jane

Yep for those in Melbourne temps next week overnight will be down to single figures!

Temps during the day in the high teens only!!

When growing up, we were only allowed to turn on the heating for the first time in Autumn/Winter when the temp went down overnight to single figures!

Nice to be back and to see that everyone is looking forward to another winter.

JG, if you want cold nights, move to Trentham...we've had occasional double figure nights in each month with more nights under 10C than over, we're now getting down to the +3°C's and +4°C's - the day after I moved in in November it snowed...... :)23 sleet and snow days last winter YAY!!!!!

Have hooked up the 'wind chill reader' on the south side of the garage.....used to get -14°C wind chills in Woodend- will be interesting to see what we get here...

Updated for the coming week this morning...

a quick summary here to tempt you...
"a marked cold air field spreads into the Alpine areas later Friday and into the weekend dropping snow lines to near 1000M by Saturday, following the trough Friday an upper trough Saturday should intensify snow showers especially southern and western areas....potential for 5 to 10cm this coming weekend above 1400M and occasional light coverings down to 1000M a risk."

    Rest here...

    Updated tonight...overview pleasingly reads....
    "OVERVIEW.
A deep trough passes across the alpine areas of Victoria through Sunday then east of the region Monday, however, upper cold pools will dribble across the alpine regions for most of the week at least to Thursday generating showers with a few storms, the coldest air will pass across the alpine areas Sunday but it appears rather cold conditions will remain to at least Thursday, most showers will fall as snow down to near 1000M Sunday then recede to above 1200M Monday, the snow line may linger near 1400/1500M until Thursday. A ridge of high pressure move in Thursday and Friday ahead of another trough with more showers later Friday and into the weekend at this stage snow line appears above 1600M next weekend."

    Rest can be found here

We're off stormchasing in the USA from Tuesday till the end of May - hope you guys get all the snow you want (because it's highly likely that "stormchaser sacrifice" works well for snow as well....will update as we get the chance.....

Today got away from me....updated the site this morning but didn't get here to give a heads up...

    OVERVIEW.
At last there is some snow weather approaching the alpine regions of Victoria.....A complex and slow moving low pressure area presently lingering around southeast Aus and off the southeast coast of NSW will become absorbed into a more pronounced low pressure moving east from southwest of Adelaide today and Saturday, all of this should consolidate into a deepening low over eastern Bas Strait Sunday. Between this low and a high over southwest WA a broad cold southwest airstream appears will establish across Victoria from Sunday to next Wednesday...Snow lines which have been near to or just above the snow country of Victoria will descend to around 1000M by Sunday and remain near that level to next Tuesday at least, at this stage mainly light snow expected but a few heavier snow showers may be a good risk especially Sunday to Tuesday.....At this stage reasonable prospects for 5 to 10cm by later Monday and early Tuesday mainly above 1200M.

    Rest here.....

Updated the outlook this morning...from today till next Sunday...

most interesting days look to be Tuesday & Wednesday

    TUESDAY 9/6/09.
A very cold day with frequent snow showers especially western and southern areas, moderate accumulations. Strong and gusty southwest winds with strong to severe wind chill about the high peaks and ridges, large amounts of ice on highland roads. Snow line near 700M at times through the day especially overnight into Wednesday. MIN TEMPS -5 to -3c MAX TEMPS -3 to -1c.

    WEDNESDAY 10/6/09.
Areas of highland fog and freezing drizzle above 900M early. Scattered snow showers down to 700M early but the snow line receding to nearer 1000M later in the day, icy road conditions. Fresh and occasionally gusty southwest winds gradually becoming lighter later. High wind chill about the peaks and higher ridges. MIN TEMPS -7 to -5c MAX TEMPS -2 to 0c.

We had snow in Trentham last week.......I'd like some more this week....more likely to get snap frozen though...(we've started issuing 'gardeners' alerts' [IMG]

Updated this morning - overview appears here

    OVERVIEW.
A ridge of high pressure takes up residence across southeast Australia over the next few days...this is good news and bad news for the snow country...first the good news...expect very cold nights with a hard frost period...the bad news, no snow of any significance is anticipated until next week. The big high pressure ridge will bring fine days and frosty nights to at least Saturday morning, then freshening north winds Saturday herald an approaching trough with a serries of cold fronts from Sunday and then through next week, at this stage snow of any note does not appear until early or mid next week (watch for updates) although patchy rain/sleet and snow may appear Sunday.

about time too - finally!! this is a forecast for weather lovers!!

    OVERVIEW.
A good week for weather systems coming up....A strong cold front affects the alpine areas on Tuesday then a series of active troughs/cold fronts will pass over the mountain country for the remainder of the week to at least Saturday, each cold front will introduce progressively colder air. The first cold front Tuesday will generate plenty of winds and rain (snow above 1600M) then expect general snow showers tending to longer spells of snow on and off to at least Saturday, conditions become very cold from Friday to Sunday. A high pressure system moves in later Sunday and into next Monday bringing a couple of days of settled weather and very low overnight temperatures.

    SNOW POTENTIAL.
Lots of snow this week especially from later Tuesday to Saturday...expect accumulations over higher parts from 30 to 60cm..most snow above 1200M reaching sub alpine areas Saturday and early Sunday.

    Daily outlooks here
