The wind is horrendous, one spark anywhere will get a fire running.
Yes, just hoping nothing starts up in the Northern Brindabellas through to Yass, as that would be nasty.
How well does this dropping of fire retardant really work when spot fires can start from embers over the line of retardant, particularly when you can hear the strength of the wind in these videos?
oh ffs some idiots are near the fire area swimming in the river with their cars parked off the side of the road.
(Heard on the radio comms)
Surely they will be moved on, and quickly.
When they mentioned checking out a couple of abandoned cars on the side of the road, I was expecting photographers.
It's alright, they are part of the Darwin study.
Leave the idiots there. They don't deserve any time or effort by emergency services.
Report of a possible pyrocumulus towards Katoomba from @ecowain !
Nothing on Fires Near Me?
I am no expert, but it's designed to slow a 'hot' fire.
Bit like losing some embers out a campfire... Spot fires from embers are going to be nowhere near as hot as the fire it comes from, initially.
Towards Katoomba from Mt Vic
Just noticed there was a QUICK diversion of a firespotter heading South, whom is now over Kanagara-Boyd NP:
Brayshaw's hut currently ok,
There's another hut that they don't think survived, didn't quite catch the name.
The infrastructure / repeater at Mt Clear has fire near it as the containment was breached.
I may have the names wrong:
frankin jacks impacted but ok
Yankee hat hut impacted but ok
ACT hut near Yankee Hat car park is ok (is that the same as the one above?? I don't know the huts)
The hut up towards Booth range is the one impacted and suspected gone (horse gully hut maybe - mix of comms breaking up and they not being sure of name)
that would be
Frank and Jacks hut,
Westermans (it had a water bag, sprinkler system).
Yankee hat hut I think is the forestry hut
Horse gully would be correct and I’d be amazed if it survived.
I also believe Gudgenby (and the redicut) both survived
Not sure I like the fact the southcare helicopter is hanging around Bredbo, wondering if something has gone wrong
I haven't noticed anything on the comms, but it might be on different channels
I have these two running:
Ripped from BM Firewatch FB
Ah ha, this is what’s flared up!
They've sent down another DC-10 from Richmond Air Force Base to the Canberra fires.
@Untele-whippet and BM crew, heard bits and pieces as it built. They were staging near the old hospital. Fire is out along Kings tablelands road. LAT just heard onto 3 of 4 runs currently planned. From what I've picked up, I think there may also be another few places within burnt land that is putting up smoke.
Just had to go out to Blacktown area, around 36C in the city, 46C out there. Proper heat. Anything smouldering is going to pop up in this
36.4C here atm
37.2C reached @ 15:20hrs.
Match of all-time record?
Huh? Not that hot.
Sorry, thought it was @POW_hungry talking about Sydney eastern burbs.
While we are waiting at Vancouver Airport for our flight home, Mr 13 is getting updates on the fire situation from his best friend in Bredbo. Doesn’t sound good, although mention was made of the number of RFS tankers/trucks in town.
Thanks was trying to figure out the echo on the radar. It popped up so quickly I thought it might have been a storm cell but couldn't figure out how that was possible under the current weather conditions
Some media causing the firies issues, judging by the radio.
Not sure what you're speaking about, but why doesn't it surprise me?
so at this stage yet to be confirmed are
Big Jack Mountain really kicking off:
It's a proper shit show out there.
LAT drops are being heavily concentrated on the Western Flanks of Tharwa at the moment.
Big 24 hours ahead as winds shift further West tonight.
They're dropping around Tharwa for the next hour, have asked crews to avoid the edge of town.
There is a grass fire reported near Lake George, hopefully that turns out to be nothing.
Brayshaw's was ok at that time, it was mentioned a post or two prior.
Wrong locations without permission
Take their yellows off them if they can't follow simple rules.
Appears to be false alarm
Pull the whole network's access to firegrounds.
It's not necessarily networks, could be all sorts of media, and possibly some who are going to say that they are but aren't
Then pull their access too.
