We roll Richard over on his tummy and tickle him until he divulges site stats.

But seriously, with a Windows desktop you can see the read/write hits up a level under the Europe section.

Just looking back at photos of Gerlos, should point out that the local school is right next to the Gondola. Imagine that as your place of learning. Reckon i would end up being a little truant .

I should have realised that - one of those things that are always there but not often noticed

I reckon they would spend most afternoons in the winter skiing.

Following the footsteps of @DidSurfNowSki and @Kletterer we are at Saalbach, where it is flipping cold, with another -20 degree day forecast for tomorrow. There has been a light dusting each night and the snow is in great nick, with a few icy patches to keep you on your toes, so to speak. Gee this place is big and we have only just scratched the surface. We have had some sunny periods, but also some challenging low, flat light times. The weather is forecast to improve over the next few days, so our last few days here should be good.

Nice. That peak on the right is one my fave off piste areas. Just a short boot/ skin from the top of Sprinter Gondola. What hut is that ?

Yup - great trip report. It got us excited for our trip to Saalbach. We've had a blast this week and the weather has been pretty good for exploring a new place. Last day tomorrow - so will have to attempt the challenge loop.

edit: fixed images. and completed challenge under 6 hours.

Yep, looks like one of the hills @Kletterer tried to convince me to do. I politely declined. Austrians have a strange sense of humor.

I wonder how much this place compares to some of the Canadian places we stay at for a month. I imagine flights around Dec are going to be just as expensive.

Most, if not all (I'm thinking of Whistler) would fit into the bottom left hand corner of European circuses.

Was a good trip with great company. First overseas resort(s) I would quite happily go back to again. Unbelievable terrain.

If this area gets snow in January then it's near the top of our list for a week in late Jan - early Feb.
I hear the off piste is extensive and accessible and I'll show the FWT skiers (event is 22-28 Feb) how to do it*.

If the snow does its thing I'll be asking about accom suggestions in
Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. They really need a better name.

    * Nope. Not a chance.

Go check it out. Happy to give you a run down of the various choices of off piste areas and weather pros and cons for those corresponding areas.

This. The sheer scale and interconnection of Euro resorts dwarfs anything in North America.
And for a 1 month stay you can get some really good regional multi area ski passes. The Salzburger pass used for this TR is an excellent one, but there are several other good ones.

What are some other ones you would recommend to look at?

Add this place to the list. Massive offpiste options and some seriously good very steep blacks and sensational for Kids. Modern lift system and some very good altitude. Not as good in the alpine restaurants department but for me i would choose it over the Arlberg any time.

Have only done 5 weeks there :D so far. 2020 - 2021 might be Apex Mountain for the season for the Klett.

We are heading back to Saalbach Hinterglemm in Feb 2019, to try and get to all the places we didn't get to in our last trip in 2018 :D
