My word you are right ! @chriscross Yes this is all total bollocks. Being locked up in your own abode indefinitely is not a plan anyone can adhere to for longer than 6-7 weeks. More people are going totally around the twist :-0 than are being admitted to ICU for CV19 :-(. My friend who is a psych. nurse in the Emergency Room at a major hospital says the same thing to me each week . We could be XC skiing at BB tomorrow morning !!! FFS!!. This is becoming very hard to take, two weekends in a row FFS!!. PLEASE Let me out , I am bleeding dying to go Nordic skiing.
I would say 5 -8 cms of snow and counting on the summit trail perhaps? . Continuous cover but a bit thin to crash on if you are a rusty XC skier coming back from long, long off season. https://mountbawbaw.com.au/
Yes, even half a meter will see nobody committed. Completely unaffected here ! Oobly oongar ! Goongar !
https://mountbawbaw.com.au/ Baw Baw is NOW OPEN to day visitors. If it snows properly later next week then XC skiing there is now possible .
Earlier, Victoria said it would relax travel curbs to boost tourism in its bushfire-struck towns, a key contributor to the southern state's coffers. Tourists will be able to stay overnight from June 1 in regional areas in the state, Premier Daniel Andrews said. Victoria will open up ski fields from June 22, with strict rules around hygiene and without shared facilities after a testing blitz showed low levels of community transmission. GAME ON!
http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/mountbawbaw.shtml http://www.janebunn.net/mt-baw-baw There could be some XC ski rock hopping in the pipe line on June 1-3 2020 at BB. If this comes off it could be quite skiable.
Ms.Bunn's automated modelling leaps around from snowmageddon to grass skiing in a single day. When I posted that link it showed both BOM and Ms. Bunn were looking at a half decent snowfall at Baw Baw and Mt.St.G. .
Jane usually goes with EC computer model, I think. Now showing 10 cm. Right on the borderline IMO. 15-20 and it's game on.
Look at the snow cameras. That is what they are for. It is grass skiing all the way but next week on Tuesday at Baw Baw and Mt. St. G. should be skiable. If you go in via Mt. St. G. take a chainsaw, chains and a snow shovel.
Again zero ,not enough to make a snow man. If you just want to goof around , maybe take your kids to throw some snow balls I will say that The Baw Baw approach road is diabolically steep . Only the Mt. Hotham road coming in from Harrietville is as challenging to drive on after a big snow fall. The Mt. St. Gwinear road is less of a challenge in some ways but it is not sealed. Lake Mtn. will get some snow on Monday . Mt. Donna Buang and Mt. Margaret Gap will probably get enough for snow play .Check the snow cam.s at 4 pm on Monday June 1st and then make a plan. Mt. Donna Buang has a FB page with reports about snow falls. If there is snow at the Lake Mt. car park then there should be snow at Mt. Margaret gap. Mt. Stirling will get snow too going by the forecasting at present.
The Forecast from Ms Bunn has bounced around a lot this week but seems to be back on track for some snow and XC skiing on Tuesday morning June 2nd 2020 at a number of places. NEXT 7 DAYS Mt Buller: 27cm Mt Hotham: 24cm Falls Creek: 13cm Mt Baw Baw: 31cm Perisher: 21cm Thredbo: 23cm Charlotte Pass: 31cm Selwyn: 16cm Lake Mountain: 34cm Mt Stirling: 25cm Ben Lomond: 7cm Mt Mawson: 5cm
http://www.janebunn.net/mt-baw-baw Baw Baw looks like it might be skiable on Sunday July 5th. We shall wait and see.
I see they’ve had a small top up - maybe 5 cm. A shame it’s at the end of the weekend. But they don’t seem to be able to keep a base this year - much like other smalls and much of Buller. Even Falls can’t really keep their front bowl covered - although I’m sure some grooming would help. Covid aside, getting early Couple of dumps in May rather June (Then a dry, mild June) mild really hurt base building in Vicco this year, which in turn kills chances For a decent Season. These small top ups would be handy with a base of even 30-40 cm. As others have said in the Falls thread, we’ll need a killer August / early September to produce half decent skiing on the small hills - well indeed everywhere in Vic. Not impossible but the indicators listed on the weather forecast thread Aren’t promising.
I tend to agree with you. My dreams of having another season like I had in 2019 when I skied over 25 days from May to December , covering 100's of KMs in the car and on XC skis and in which I basically almost burnt out by September 2019 will remain dreams this year. If we must have a shite ski season with hardly any snow then let it be the year many of us are in plague riddled lockdown.
