I finally did a BC adventure yesterday ...... FARK that toooo much effort for to little reward .
We did score some very nice snow down , but FFS the walk back out smashed me (over an hour ) . Then I was suckered into a second run ' this walk out won't be as far '
I might give it a go again if I can walk along a ridge somewhere .

Thing is, you think, if I get fitter, it will be easier!

So then, the next season, having done all the diet and fitness work, you head out. And it feels the same.

You just went further, or did more runs.

What is this "walk" thing you are talking about.... you have just got the wrong boots & bindings.

When they say skins, they are not the ones you wear!

I reckon everyone feels like that in the beginning. Then some people start appreciating the uphill in its own right. That’s when you get hooked. The rest? Start saving for Cat and Heli days! LOL

Moondog55 may not be soft, but I laugh when people a lot younger than @Nozawaman call him soft, particularly when they think they won't be soft at his age!!!
i.e. The arrogance of somebody 20 years younger, thinking they will be super buff when they're 60yo +

Naa, is about being soft, not age. Plenty of people 20 years younger than me are soft and after one try at BC skiing say never again.

@Nozawaman it’s not just fitness - although this is a big thing, it’s also that there’s a surprising amount of technique involved that significant reduces the muntedness. First day out you will have none of that. Same as skiing pow :)

"Oh I need girls skis because my knees aren't good."

"Oh I can't ski bumps because my knees aren't good."

"Oh I can't meet up with you because I can't find a car park."

    Soft.

It was nothing about fitness or difficulty in doing it ( The second transition I was the first with my skins on ready to go ). It was just a lot of effort for little reward . One nice run then over an hour to walk back out , I could have have skied 5 more lines from the lift hahaha
I am willing to give it a go in some alpine terrain though .

You know we all want to, too, but we also know you spent about $2million on the trip to get those photos and you are going to milk them for every cent.

    Still a girls ski in a 165.

Pretty soft to be skiing a hill where the highlight of your trip was an ex politician buttering you up.

Yea I know, I was too soft to make it as a guide in Cham, too much exposure for this butterball.

The reward for me is not having anyone else out there. I’d rather do one run with just myself, +1 and the stillness than 20+ having to dodge numpties.

I don’t mind a bit of numptie dodging - it’s like slalom only they’re unpredictably moving.
But yes, agreed - the solitude and untracked with the people of your choosing is fabulous.

You can get both in Japan if you know where to go.... Whole small resorts with nobody around, mid week ;)
