hi Brad, good to see you are up and about.

are you still the site moderator?

if you are then it seems to me there are currently two 'snow report' threads operating, one has the additional words'predictictions', but I don't think the musings of many about what might be, is of much interst, except perhaps for them to have their our thread titled , perhaps, " Musings about the snow on the Ben".

having a dedicated and 'official' thread that persons such as me who cannot see the Ben and need to rely on others for a relaible report, can go to in confidence it will tell the snow situation as it is, would be good.

tis good though there is so much excitement about the Ben this year, I think the work that has been done up there in and about the slopes will give the place a good start.

i wish Flea, Geoff and Eryl every success with snow making and groomingand the new look Big Ben tow line.

thanks also to those who assisted about the 'Rumdoodle'refurbishment, a good expirence with the community of spirit that is so much a really important part of the Ben and all who enjoy her.

Good to see you back too paddington [IMG]

I see them as two very different threads. This one is a past and present tense thread where we can discuss what the snow is and was like.

The Snow and Weather PREDICTIONS thread is just that; a thread to discuss what may or may not eventuate in a future tense. We have also had special permission granted from the site owners to have a weather thread contained within a resort thread. Weather prediction threads 'should' belong in the Weather forum, but as we have so little traffic, we have been allowed to keep it here.

Hence they both get to stay.

BL Bliss is there for the more social ramblings of the Ben Lomondites.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Report from the Ben Lomond Mayor:

Snow down to the Main road (Road Closed surprisingly)

60 cm drifts to the bottom of the ladder

The grader attempted to clear the road from the Rangers hut to the bottom of the ladder but has got stuck. It is now clearing the mountin road to the main road.

There is a Dozer on the way to clear the remainder of the ladder from the rangers station and it should be there by 11am ish.

Wet NW snow has formed a now frozen base and is being topped up with Dry Southerly snow.

Depth estimates are 40 to 70cm across the mountain.

People needeed to get everything going on the mountain.

    Action Stations!!!

That is fantastic news to hear. And yes if anyone has some pics to see, that would be awesome. I can't remember last when we might have got to go skiing in June !!! Fawwwk. I agree if it is snowing at Ballroom, on the Sidling etc, let alone that the grader got stuck at the base of the ladder, that it for sure it must be snowing heaps on top. Little ripper, can hardly wait. Bring it on !!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas of where to go for a descent amount of snow tomorrow, im assuming the road will still be closed. Is there a gate that they shut on Mt Barrow or is it always open? Went up Poatina Rd today and was around 20cm on the ground. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/827/p1010043m.jpg/

Hoping for a good start to the season this year. If Ben Lomond ends up with around 1m what would be the chances of it running next weekend?

I think it will definatley be running next weekend Sam & most likely next week with a slow opening. The gate on mount barrow will probably be closed until they clear the snow.. You should be able to get at least to the ranger station @ ben tommorrow.. Wouldn,t go to early though if i was u !

i have seen it down that low once before in 1990 which was a similar type of weather system but not as heavy as todays snowfall @ blessington and all the way back to ballroom .... There was 5cm on the ground at Myrtle Park on the tasman hwy this morning with snow settling back to Nunamara 300m ASL

Brisk, all vehicles will need to carry chains as a minimum, and depending on how well they clear the road and how much more snow falls, it may be touch and go as to 2wd or 4wd only. As fot the bus, give McDermotts coaches a call, as they may not be running yet.

In one word, EPIC !!! Ok guys, I think ski season has arrived and it is time to get in those first runs, as soon as the road is open and the tows are up an running. I am sure Errol and crew will be working their butts off to make this happen. Mind you it is probably still snowing.

I seriously can't recall this level of snow so early. Re access, yes I reckon it will be 4x4, chains or if by some chance McDermotts are ready, the bus. But I am ready and really looking forward to carving up some turns.

"Well we've done a fair bit of grooming on the beginners slope. We have probably the best early cover and base since 1968 at the moment," Mr Williams said.

Interesting quote from Eryl. So keen to hit up the mountain, so gutted I can't make it till monday. Someone build a massive booter haha!

Any and all commitments are meaningless before that which is snow!
