Have good time in Perisher Dave. The weather is usually crap on Ben so every day there is snow they need to operate and it is school holidays. The snow needs to be packed down whether it is skiers or the snow groomer. The next storm may see all the snow blown down to the valley. I am glad I don't have creek in or snowsports who rely on income from the lifts operating.

Just checked the cams for Ben, it is starting to look pretty good up there. Don't suppose the snow guns might be firing as well and/or the groomer used to help shape things up by any chance.

Great news to hear that the lifts should be running soon. Would be good to get on the snow again.

Groomer was being dug out on Saturday, so I'd say there is a fair chance that once it has had a couple of decent freezes, it will be kicked into gear.
Guns will prob get a run when the wind drops out to keep it all nicely topped up.

Things are definitely pretty cold up there the last few days. Hopefully this can hold off any loss over the weekend before the next fall.

Looks from the Ben Cams, that some more snow may have fallen or perhaps is falling even now ?? Definitely clouded in today. Mawson on the other hand is having a blue bird day. Need to keep a close eye on the Cams, and hope for the best

Looking pretty good today up at Ben, groomer has been doing some work too. Any news as to whether tows are operating today and more importantly over the weekend.

Also don't suppose anyone knows whether or not McDermotts will be running the shuttle bus, over the weekend or over the season ??

weather looks wet and Shite this week until possibly thursday ! definatley some more snow on friday & saturday but we will lose a fair bit of cover before then!... i dont think the tows will be operating until things freeze up again until later in the week as the weather will be wet & foul up there mon-tue and into wednesday!.... For lift status this week i would suggest punters contact apline enterprises on 63906122.. !

Come on you lot. Where is the chatter! We have to make this site more active for people to see! BLB, BLIM engage [IMG]

    So

    Weather this week:

Cloudy and a few showers through until Friday then turning to snow from Friday afternoon/Saturday morning ish through the weekend. Mountainwatch is looking like the wind could swing south easterly on Sunday which might be interesting. Snow-forecast is forecasting snow Friday, Saturday, but only 8cm... not sure if it will be enough to repair what will be lost from now to then.

The Giblin CSIRO weather station is currently sitting at +2.3 degrees and has been above 0 since friday mid morning so the melt will be significant.

Observations: It looks like the man made snow is holding up well on the ski cam, I'm keen to see some shots of the slopes too! Anyone got any?

Can't wait for the Ben Lomond Bender in a fortnight! [IMG]

looks like its going to be quite wet thursday!.. turning to snow friday &over the weekend! hopefully the charts change as most of the cold moisture is missing us & hitting the mainland ! we will be lucky to get back enough snow to be operating again in the near future but you never know!

Tomorrow & Friday early will be wet , from Friday evening through until Monday possibly Tuesday there is a good chance of southerly / south easterly snow . Possibly up to 20+ cm which could get things happening again ! More snow later next week is also on the cards , lets hope Huey comes good for the Ben !

5.2 on the hill at the mo. Rain should ease and temps should cool from now and we should see sleet/snow falling from kod to late afternoon Friday. Forecasting most snow on Sunday and a total of about 20 to 40 cm from the system. The ground is soaking so there will be some lost in the initial falls but it should freeze in and stick [IMG] lets hope for some cold nights [IMG]

We have a couple of cm yesterday afternoon from the NW ! Light dusting & freeze overnight! It's just started snowing nicely from the south / south east! Looks by the radar we should see snow up here for next 24 hrs or so! Hopefully we should be able to accumulate a fair bit !

That link doesn't seem to be working from the CSIRO site anymore.

Do you have a direct link you use Iceman?

Hi Guys, I have access through a csiro connection direct to the dataset, trying to get it sorted so the public have a window view through to the same information but still working on it. -2.0 overnight

Looks like BOM has improved the otulook for tomorrow and Friday which is good.

    http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/forecasts/ben-lomond.shtml

Also got down to -0.6 but back up to +0.9 for some reason, perhaps clouded over or pre frontal before the snow tomorrow. Hopefully what is there will hold and set in whats there before any further falls.

Next week is looking like a ripper also with snow forecast Monday through to Wednesday and I expect through until the weekend where another front is looking aces also! Its a long way off but its looking good for the next few weeks for sure!

Looks like some snow forecast tomorrow and Friday now which is good. Saturday and then Sunday morning will be the pick of the weekend.

See you all at the bender!

went for a ski yesterday afternoon! .. definatley marginal on the front slopes (beginers) summit wont open until more snow!.. Over the back it is better with reasonable (fair to moderate) snow on bills !. the cover is windblown , lumpy & was very icy yesterday!..
snow should improve with more skis & boards on it ! ... need more snow but i have skied on far worse !

Had the day up there yesterday and after a worrying start it was actually a great day.
Village was just ridable at best, but Bills was moderate as stated previously.
After a very, very icy start the snow improved in ridability.
Brother and I more or less had Bills to oursleves the whole day as there weren't too many punters about and put 26 runs in by 2:30 before calling it quits for the drive home- well worth the $60 IMO.

    Bring on some more snow

+2.8 on the CSIRO weather station at the moment. Starting to level off now, hope it starts to drop! The cool change hit the west coast just on an hour ago and the winds have swung more westerly so its not far off now. Lets hope it freezes back in and we get a top up through the night.

I'm assuming its a good think the Ben is missing most of the prefrontal moisture right now? Probably not cold enough for snow and we don't want to loose our gains again!
