Alright Best Food, Drinks, Beer, Coffee available in Perisher (Smiggins, BC & Guthega).
If you had a great meal deal and it was good value put it in here. If you remember put down the price.

Can't beat the hand cut chips $8, Huge Kransky/Sausage on a roll $10 and they usually have a soup of the day which is $10.

    In no particular order:
    * Eyre Burgers (or basically Eyre anything)
    * Coffee, panini rolls, Siena cake/rocky road/florentines (and the other things Roberta makes) at Brunelli’s.
    * Pizza (any/all of them) at Aldo’s.
    * Shameless plug: 3-course dinner and the (well-stocked and very reasonably priced) bar at The Coachman lodge in Smiggins

If I'm lucky I'll be there in September to try out the hot chocolate you said is so good. I'll tell Bruno you sent me.

Each year, My uncle always has to an Aldo’s meal (and some Vino) . I’m not sure when Aldo’s started (assume when they built the tube). He’s been going to PV since the late 50’s . Loves Aldo’s and himself a bit. He’s in his 70’s Still skis very well.

I had a curry with naan at the BC terminal last year. It wasn’t too bad, and not as arse rammingly overpriced as many of the other bits of fried turd on offer.

Carol Small (who used to be our lodge manager - and also at the time owned Kicking Horse at the bottom of the double chair on Mt P and Overboard Cafe under Smiggins pub; she’s a great manager!) bought Aldo’s from Aldo maybe 10 years ago so Aldo could retire. Food is awesome there.

Thanks - she said to us at the end of last season she had a couple of offers and was considering them. I hadn’t called in yet this season, so I didn’t say anything in my earlier post because I hadn’t heard either way.

I still prefer Sundance coffee to Brunelli's. The bonus is that the caramel slice at Sundance is much improved since I was last there.

Not a fan of Guthega Pub, other than the views. Very expensive beer and the quality of the food seems to get worse every year.

But those views keep dragging me back.

The beers at Guthega pub are I think $13 for a pint?
A beer at BC Pub was $11.20 on the weekend . With discount

That beer was $8 two years ago

$11.20 was that with the discount as well? Not sure if it has always been the case but the epic discount changes depending on the time of day and the venue. But its basically - Opening to 11:30 15%, 11:30-1:30 5%, 1:30-close 15%

Higher ground was my go to last season for coffee a good cup and morning sweets, the best I’ve had at the P in a while. A good vibe in there too

but shhhhh.... there is only ever a small line and it would be nice to keep it that way until at least the end of the season

Geez. 11.20 for a beer at Blue Cow. I used to like that little corner of the BC building , with the loung chairs and view.
Don’t think I’ll pay that much for a beer though.

May end up stashing some cans in the snow somewhere. If that’s the normal price this seasons.

To give a bit of context, my perspective these days is focusing on best places for a young family.

With that in mind, I second the Sundeck (usually a calm atmosphere unlike the other nearby options) and Higher Ground recommendations (would be a good cafe in the city, let alone right on the snow). Keep the food (and expectations) simple at the Sundeck and you'll stay happy with the atmosphere and good drinks. Higher ground is perfectly located to grab a coffee around ski school drop off/pick up.... lunch is also great, but crowds indicate perhaps already a victim of its own success.

I know people hate the crowds and the prices, but the other surefire winner with our family is the deluxe hot chocolate (with the snowman marshmallow sticks and crushed chocolates etc) at mid station! Can't recall the pricing but the kids just get so much enjoyment out of them (and can be bribed by reference to them!) on a cold or snowy day that in the context of a ski holiday I say it's money well spent!

But far and away the best meals I've had in Perisher are picnics in the trees on the way back from Interceptor to Pretty. Kids who can ski greens can follow you anywhere in there and handle it easily, so you can have the feeling of having the mountain to yourself without any effort. On a sunny day in late August or September it is absolutely magic. Just don't tell anyone else.....

Yeah PV and Manor hot chocs are the win.

    * I may have massive issues with Mid station.

Another vote for the tucker at Eyre Cafe.

I had my first two days on snow in years. Family of four. After buying two days of tickets, inc ski tube, plus some equipment hire - lunch at Blue Cow just about required calling the bank to reopen and access the home equity line of credit.

Blue Cow has always been 'Cash Cow' but the ordinary fare combined with the ridiculous prices ensured it was on no ones agenda to ever return to again.

That said, the place was choka full and there is obviously a sufficient 'propensity to consume' such that they can command the prices they do. From a pure business point of view you make hay while the sun shines and everything about Blue Cow complex feels like a pure exercise in finding the consumer price elasticity limits - but for me it's a negative return on brand sentiment.

The thing about BC is the prices is the costs have exponentially increased since Vail took over.
I know some of the privates practice extortion (eg Mid Station) , where as others have been pretty consistent (eg Eyre).
Food prices at Vail ski hills in NA are pretty up there as well. So maybe its a thing.

Best Chips are at Smiggs. At the little Kiosk near J-bar land.

    It's a thing for sure.

Everything about Perisher feels like the mathematicians and actuaries are running the place.

Some of it is working well. Operationally the place is as organised as it has ever been and Perisher is crushing everyone with the smart data-driven marketing.

The downside is that it feels very corporate with near zero warmth or hospitality vibe. Even the lunch-time live act at BC cafeteria felt like tokenism in exchange for getting fleeced of cash.

Good hot chocolate there as well.

Mid station is just getting further and further down my list. It's just that it is a good place with the kids to stop. easy access and easy to ski from and you can head off any way you want, but the prices are just ridiculous. We got stung with the hot chocs the other week, missed the morning special and the cost was $7, and to make it worse 2 of 3 kids didn't like the flavour. So 3 hot chocs $21, 1 coffee $7 (may have been more), 1 schooner $13.00 = Over $50.

The funny thing is Mid is not Perisher owned. You think they would put some effort in. But I guess they have the location so no effort is required.

Haven't tried the hot choc there.
Miss P likes the one at the Manor when the manager makes them.
They use a chocolate syrup. Then steam milk on the espresso machine.
With grated hot chocolate and marshmellows
    was $5.50 last season.

Yeah...and they don't like being called out on it on FB
I copped a rant once (which was deleted ) I think it was a picture of two powerade bottles .. I wrote ...something to the affect of
"so thats a $22 snow measuring device"

The comeback was full on...."don't you know how hard and tiring it is to run a business down here, you punters have no effing idea how to run a business in the snow ....and so on..."

Yes it's hard, especially when supplies have to be hauled across snow and up lifts. Of all the people we met over the years of snow cam safari's there were few who worked harder than ol' Bob Koffler - and his prices were not budget, but there was always a sense of providing value there.

I'd think places like Eyre would be much harder , to be honest.

Then I head to japan. A little on mountain resturant...with 24/7 blizzards . No mountain tax.

Is higher ground where the hot dog was momentarily? I remember a couple of years ago asking the forum where to get the best hot dog. Lots recommended the hot dog place at the manor. Not to be confused with the kebab shop that also does hot dogs. So that year, i trotted off to get a hot dog and it was closed. I was gutted.

In the interests of scientific research for this thread I had vegetarian nachos from Blue Cow today for lunch. Very good - decent sized helping, nice flavour, bit of chili in it, I think it was around $13. One of my sons had lasagne which he said was pretty good too. I only very rarely eat at Blue Cow, so I can’t offer any critique on anything else there, sorry.

So how much is a beer at the burning log?
