How about free drinks from apres if you bribe the manager with the prospect of a job? that works.

Foodworks has a bottle shop but it's a tad pricey. It's not a ripoff - nothing like the previous supermarket, but just full RRP and there don't seem to be specials.

The Whitt is the bar at Ski Club of Victoria (behind the ski patrol building).

It is a much quieter place than the Kooroora.

If you're familiar with the other side of the village, you can't go past the Avalanche for good drinking, a fun atmosphere and really, really good meals. Not to fancy, not too expensive and really good serves.

agree but they would always ask non dinning drinkers to leave the bar, when they would serve meals to who ever was booked into resturant.
is this still the case ?

like most places if people are referring to their experiences of over 1 year ago , a lot of these places can live or die on a chef , or a couple of key people .
Its hard to keep the standards up although some places do manage to do it , which is a huuge effort considering its only seasonal work .. (eg try the food at smiggins hotel [IMG] )

The Whitt is an institution on the mountain. Lots of locals drink there. Has a good atmosphere. If you are not a memeber you need to sign in and remember to NEVER wear a hat in the bar!!!

the whitt is always good for early night drinks...Cheap "member" prices. They used to do takeaway last season too... just ask the barman. dunno if they still do that.
I'd always follow up with breathtaker\grimus and unfortunately finish the night at hooha.

mum had a delicious steak with mash, chips AND salad, topped with mushroom sauce for $28...not bad at all

    chalet apres bar
bought a tiramisu 'slice' that wasnt particularly cheap, until it came out and it was so bloody big 2 of us couldnt finish it! absolutely delicious too

Subway is alright up there. I mean you get a full meal for around 12 bucks which you will be really full after. Well at least i am.

Foodworks do have pretty good prices i reckon. They could charge watever they want but they keen them reasonable.

Pizza wherever you go. Alot of people only eat half each so if you split it with a friend its fairly cheap.. I personally will down a large by myself :)!

Subway cookies are really good though, I have to admit. Hard to beat. Pancake Plus make pretty good sweet pancakes if you need dessert.

Wanna give a [IMG] [IMG] to John & the girls at the Whitt. Opening weekend...my girlfriend's birthday...and they looked after us all night with champagne courtesy of the bar, candles, photos etc. And when I did get to buy, prices were good and service was great. Went back the next night and we'll be regulars this season! Thanx again guys

Why on earth do pancakes plus open for breakfast at 9am , for gawd sakes in a ski resort .
    That just defies logic ??

Good work resurrecting the thread team!

skimax - Kooroora or Cattleman's would be a good bet for breakfast. The owner of Pancakes Plus is a good guy - you should give him that feedback.

No probs carvedude , next time im up i will.
Have eaten at Cattlemans , and will try Kooroora for breakfast next time.
BTW thought the Pizzas at breathtaker were pretty good.
I had breakfast there on Sunday due to the crappy weather not getting us too far away from the lodge.
$50 for myself and the boy for breakfast at Breathtaker [IMG]
    simply breathtaking .

    Oh heres another tip .
I paid 167.5 c/litre for unleaded at Mirimbah yesterday .
I thought that was pretty reasonable. Figure that given they dont turn fuel over too often , their fuel gets cheaper the longer they keep it ?

    Yeah, fuel degrades over time.

Kept a drum once for 10 months; ended up as brown as fresh motor oil. Not worth sniffing.

    Bargain Skimax ....

So we are coming from Sydney on Thursday - where would be the cheapest place to fill up with Premium given that I should at least get to Albury without having to fill up ..... [IMG]

I think a car would be doing well to make it to Mansfield from Sydney on one tank.

Options would be Albury/Wodonga, BP Glenrowan (on the Hume) or Benalla.

I'd be shocked if there was a noticeable difference between any of those places.
