Hey everyone – I'm a new member but I've been poking around the forum for a while...

I'm going down the Thredbo in the next few weeks with a group of mates and I'm wondering where the best places are to go out now? Après, bars, restaurants etc?

It's been a while since I did a season down there in 2001 – the village was usually dead with a few extra people out on Wednesdays... Has it changed much? I hope so...

In the olden days called the Helen Keller:
    • Deaf from the loud music
    • Dumb from shouting to be heard
    • Blind from the alcohol
I used to like the piano bar in the Alpine Hotel, but it's a while since I've been there.

There isn't anywhere to go, try Perisher, the life and party of the village there doesn't compare

The Schuss Bar is dead as an apres scene (since about 2005). No more dancing in ski boots straight off the slopes. Very sad.

Without fear or favour (or any concerns around cost):

    Bars
    • Bernti's Bar – packed to the gills on a rugby night … don’t pinch Donna’s chair
    • The Apres Bar – with Mark Travers playing live music most nights
    • The Bistro – reasonable fare, pool tables, beers etc.
    • The T-Bar bar – what else do you call it?
    • Black Bear – Stav has some good beers, mind the possum
    • Hotel Lounge Bar – laid back vibe, comfy chairs

    Restaurants
    • Steaks - Bernti's Bar and Grill
    • Pizza and pasta - T-Bar (big portions ... especially the pasta)
    • Mod Oz - Terrace Restaurant in The Denman
    • Mod Oz (or if you're in the mood for a schnitzel) - Black Bear, has a private dining room available if you have a large group
    • A slice of Europe – Jean-Michel at The Knickerbocker (out beyond the Village Green)
    • Mod Oz / Fusion - Central Road 2625 (cafe in the Village Square … great food)
    • Alpine Hotel - Cascades and Segreto (not sure about the fare in there this year)
    • Eagle's Nest - take a gondola to the top of the hill for dinner
    • Sausage rolls – Avalanche Café, Valley Terminal (I love those things).

    I’m sure I’m missing something … I must be.

The Denman can be pretty loose, River inn in the afternoon, maybe start at the bottom and work your way up, its easier to crawl up stairs rather than down.

Definitely try the Denman when a good cover artist is playing in the bar. It can get too busy and will fill up on weekends.

River Inn when coming off the mountain, it rocks mainly on Saturday when the weather is good.

The big question is when are you there? There are occasional events (see https://www.thredbo.com.au/apresguide/) such as the full moon parties at the Keller Bar and upcoming pool gigs by La Folie Douce http://www.lafoliedouce.com/en/entertainments-la-folie-douce.html

The River Inn Fri and (in particular) Sat afternoons between 3pm-5:30pm can get pretty wild. Kid Mac is playing there this Saturday. Usually a fair bit of dancing on tables and cheap pints going on.

My colleagues are putting on the La Folie Douce parties the following weekend (I work for Mumm) they're going to go off!!! Hope you like champagne! :woohoo::cheers:

Had dinner at Cascades with Annabuzzy and family on Friday evening and the serving sizes were so big that even a rugby forward couldn't finish the main and dessert on the set menu for Christmas in July. The food, wine and service was good.

Excuse the ignorance but judging by the replies, Cascades must be located in the village?

I was thinking of somewhere up on the hill.

Yes, Cascades is in the village. On mountain choices are Eagles Nest, Black Sallees, Kareela Hutte, Frostbite or Merritts Mountain House.

Great list. The only thing i would add is the tapas plates at Berntis are delicious and affordable.
I went on date night with my 10 year old on Saturday night, drinks and dinner $55.
Prawn fritters yum as was the Duck shanks and garlic squid.

They put gondolas on Kosi Express at night to take diners up to Eagles Nest for dinner ( not every night )

I observe a lot of "old" people getting loose all over Thredbo.
The sticky bar aka The Keller is generally where the non-old people go...

It'd be a cold ride up to Eagles Nest for dinner in an open quad. I'm pretty sure they'd put the gondola cabins on the lift line of an evening.

@linked_recoveries Great list! More than enough to get me started.. and I LOVE schnitzel, so I will definitely be trying Black Bear @Lady Mamabear I will go halvsies with someone!

@AJS Oh, I read about this a few days ago… unfortunately, I won’t be around. I'll be down mid-late August. I do like Champagne too! Next year, perhaps...

@incogski The. Gondolas. Exist. They’ve been around since the 90s, I wish they’d use them during the day time.

@winter Thanks for the tip. I saw on Instagram that they have a skate night, or something.. there now.

I didn't mean to sound sceptical of the gondola! I believed you, but was just wondering what they looked like.

@incogski ohhh... ha. well, you got your picture... They are looking a bit vintage nowdays. I'm still wishing they would break them out during the day time. Such a tease sticking them in the shed.
