Is it possible to take the tube to Blue Cow and ski from there to Front Valley during the offseason (ie lifts not working)? What is the best route to take? Is this even possible?
Yes it’s completely possible. If things haven’t changed since I was last there, there’s a quad whose base is adjacent to the base of the Brumby t bar. You take that up, hang a left, traverse for a few minutes, and ski down. bingo wait that involves one lift. otherwise just get the tube
How about if we park in Guthega? Say me and my mate arrive in 2 cars. I park in front valley and hitch a ride in his car to Guthega. We ski from Guthega to Front Valley (this is the question I guess, is it possibe to ski from Guthega to Front Valley?) and get to the car parked in front valley. We then drive up to Guthega to pickup the 2nd car.
How and which route? (Forgive me if you're being sarcastic, it's hard to read sarcasm on the internet.)
You would be hiking a fair bit, and skiing drifts, so the question would be why? But then I would also say Do it!
I’m not. There are dirt roads there under the snow. Have never done it but I believe if you take the road up past north P it will get you there.
And where you would reasonably expect dirt roads to exist, they don't. Case in point: Went for a summer hike with my kid and his mate a few years back. They had their bikes with them. We took the summer road past the waste treatment plant (at North P) up, with some steep sections, to Blue Cow. The last pitch before the terminal was especially steep, so I ended up pushing two bikes up for the kids. All this time there had been lots of walking and pushing of bikes and not much actual bike riding. Despite this, I came up with the brilliant idea of walking up the trail to the top of Pleasant Valley Quad, on the promise that from there we can enjoy an awesome ride down Copperhead Road, back down to Telemark. Well, imagine my surprise when I discovered that Copperhead Road is not a road at all. In fact, in the off season there's not so much as a walking track. It's alpine scrub all the way. I guess those groomers work their magic to make Copperhead Rd. Those were two pretty pissed off kids.
At the moment? or next year? Cause snow is melting ...and what "route" there may be . Will be gone as the snow melts. Eg tomorrow. You basically have to stay as high as possible. So the majority of the journey will be slogging uphill towards the high traverse above pleasant valley.
If what you really want to do is car shuttle runs, go to Charlotte Pass. At the moment it looks like you could do it. Drive up to the summer carpark at the pass itself, ski down to the village, drive down to get picked up, repeat...
Don't you eventually run out of cars? Seriously, one summer I thought it would be great to walk Pleasant Valley to the Ridge (back when the Skitube ran off season).. I too was surprised that it was waist high scrub the whole way, no idea where our feet were and when we finally came into a clearing at the top of Roller Coaster we saw a dead snake. That was the end of the bush bashing that day.
