There'll be some folks looking for this eventually, so here's yer new season BW thread.

Big off-season project: new bridge in the village!!! No more cramped old culvert bottleneck en route from the village to Plaza/Bullet chairs. It's been replaced by a big concrete bridge to take vehicle traffic over the ski run.

They've had a good summer season with visits to the bike park growing quickly and exceeding management forecasts. They've added a new flow trail and four more tech trails. I was there this past weekend for a mountain bike DH and the mountain was busy with lots of foot traffic and cars in most driveways around Snow Pines estate where I was staying. Lots more businesses were open compared to the same weekend last year. Real estate prices are on the rise because of the greater prospects for owner usage and rental revenue. Anyone thinking of buying in would be advised to get serious soon because the dedication to summer growth is very clear, price growth is going to be pretty sharp with so many boomers retiring from Vancouver/Edmonton/Calgary to Kelowna and surrounds.

closer to the season people tend to post up some meeting points in the village for various times to meet. Keep coming back and checking in. No BW for us this year, we'll be down the road at Silverstar and Apex.

Two new lifts in the Okanagan this winter! Been a long time since that happened. Now if Apex could just get some snow...

NEW Powder 2.0 Quad Chair starts spinning this Friday!

We know you've all been on the edge of your seats waiting to hear about our brand new $4-million Powder 2.0 Quad Chair. We're thrilled to announce it will start spinning on Friday, December 14 at 9:00 a.m. Be sure to come early, as the first 50 people in line on Friday will receive souvenir pins, as will the first 100 on Saturday.

To add to the excitement, we'll also be opening up the Alpine T-Bar on Friday at 9:00 a.m. With both of these lifts come a ton of new runs. Stay in the loop by checking our grooming report , which is updated every morning at 7:00 a.m.

Season is well on its way with great snow for this time of year.
Crew did an amazing job to get the New Powder running before Christmas

Ahh 42 days till we arrive :woohoo::woohoo: Starting to get a little excited

Never been so will be an interesting firat visit, though we'll only be there for a couple of day trips. MS has been a bit critical of how much rundown BW is looking - seems some of it might need a coat of paint

If you have never been, think you will be impressed with what the Shumann Family (They are Auusie Family whole developed Mt Hotham)have done with Big White. The village centre Lodge is amazing. I personnel like the way the mountain is layed out with some of the best long runs around. Hopefully when your there, the Gem Lakes lift will be up and running. (a bit like the Burfield @ SP) it normally opens early Jan
    My favourite runs are :
    1. From the top of the "Alpine T' Bar" down through 'Whitefoot trail - "Powder Bowl" then under the Falcon chair on to "Blue Sapphire"onto "Ogo slow" down to the Gem Chair. (7.2 km fast cruiser)
    2. Is from the top of the Gem Lakes Express Kalinar"s Rainbow, a fast cruiser with heaps of steep drop off that catch out a lot of people. think is about 6-7km for an alternative half way down Kalinar's you can head straight down "Blue Ribbon" which is a fast run over massive whoop to doo's .
If it "whites out" a bit up top head over to the Black Forrest area with heaps of tree runs.

Hope you have an awesome time there.

Re 1. Love that first relatively steep pitch before you get to the Falcon and then those couple of rollers on Blue Sapphire, especially first thing after a nice overnight fall.

This last season floated from Top of T Bar all the way to the Gem after 15cm Powder over night. We were the first down.
This last season we had fresh snow overnight 18 out of the 22 nights we were there.

Off the TBar is definitely the nicest way to get to Gem Lake. Had a great week there in Feb except for the -18 temps.:D

Man I hope BC Tourism weren't forking the bill for the Today Show segments at their ski resorts. They absolutely sucked for the most part. No wow factor to encourage people to visit. Interviewing some Aussie baristas at the main café on mountain isn't going to convince people to spend money to go over to ski/board.

Some of the segments are on Youtube, pretty miserable, but still, you have to consider their audience, a few minutes on morning TV.

Which is why I would think they would try to maximise the impact. If that was later in the show then they miss all the people that have to leave to commute to work.

I wouldn't put it past the three intermediate kingdoms to kick in some funding on this one themselves. Still a fortnight out from prime post-NY travel time for last minutes bookings. They cracked onto the aussie market years ago, perfect fit with January being so slow with north american clientele. It was like a hole in their winter season donut, Aussies on school hols fill the hole to perfection (cue @JoeKing).

Big White opened their New Powder Chair on the 14th Dec.
The Gem Lakes Chair is a bit like the Burfield Chair at Sun Peaks.
It opens up some of the best runs at Big White :party::party::party:

Flew in last night flight was delayed about 1.5hrs. Flight wasnt bad. Ski bags didn't leave Vancouver. Bags delivered this morning. Spending today picking up passes and getting new boots for the kids. Dizzies are busy, waiting for the call to come back in.
Promised my boy when he could ski blacks he can try boarding. Me and my big mouth.Booking him in for a snow boarding lesson. Might wait to see if he likes it before he gets new ski boots. I regret not bring my board now. Let me know when your up we can go for a ski. We are here for 2 weeks.
