Someone knows their wines, there is some good juice on that list. Not the flashy big name self promoting 'stars' of the valley either, those are wines made for - and by -wine people.

Bigwhite done. Swapping snow for sand. Time to acclimatize in Hawaii before returning to the stupid heat at home.

What is the place you are staying at vibe? Do they have those stupid daily resort fees?

We are looking at staying at Big white early 2020. Does anyone have any experience with car rentals direct from Kelowna air port? We would be staying at Aspens and need a car to shuttle from the airport to big white and around the resort for two adults and three kids.

Needing capacity for two sets of adults skis and four bags- there seems to be Hertz, Avis, Enterprise and Budget rentals based at the airport. Does anyone have any experience good or otherwise with any of the above?

We have rented from Kelowna airport several times, through Enterprise. Very easy and convenient. We have noticed over the last few years it has been difficult to get the larger SUV's there though and cost was higher than renting out of Vancouver. Just check all fine print.

Catch a shuttle, you don't need a car in Big White.

If you do want a rental book well in advance. Due to limited supply we book up to 12 months in advance and continue to monitor other options afterwards

I don’t. But the three kids get tired and cold and whiny- allows us to go out at night and have a decent time.
We are looking at staying at ‘The Aspens’ so a bit further up the slope than Stonebridge . A little far for little legs.

You save heaps. Unless you're planning on heading away from the resort your rental car is just going to sit at your accommodation costing you money.

A rental car is a bit of a luxury for a small group but for a large group may be paid for by not paying for domestic airfares and resort shuttles.

And if you are there for more than a week or so you can use it for a town grocery top-up, and trips to ser the hockey etc

We did the hockey trip to see the Kelowna rockets a few years ago- the resort organised the whole shebang including bus trip down- one price for the game and trip...

I've a friend heading to BW next week and looking for some private lessons.
Anyone have any level 3-4 instructors they'd suggest? We had a bloke named Ken Sinclair last time we were there (2014) . He was fantastic but I'm not sure if he's still around.

There's a bloke based at BW who does a lot of YouTube clips. Josh Foster IIRC.

Josh Foster no longer there. I can recommend Guy, not sure of last name, French Canadian. Did a moguls class with him, and he took the double black Master Class for the week I was there. I think he is Level 4. Ken Sinclair is still there, lovely guy and beautiful skier!

Think Ken has issues with his knees so tends to do the cruiser lessons rather than smash bumps.

Thatd be about right. We had a post football knee reconstruction bromance happening when he taught my wife and I as novices. She almost dislocated her eyeballs rolling them while we swapped traumatic knee war stories. I can’t imagine that they have gotten much better in four years.

Guy Auger is brilliant - been at the resort two years. he only works part time as he works in Kelowna. We did race training with him this season, lots of moguls too. Ken Sinclair has always been my go to instructor for beginners and intermediates. Pure magic and still has it - saw him this year train the instructors and gave some of the young ones a run for their money. This pic's a few years old (ie note, no helmet on Ken , no longer permissable!)

Had Ken 3 times back in the 2000s. His hair/beard was a bit darker back then. Also agree with this assessment. He was excellent. Thought he might have retired by now.

Sue, you put us into Ken and he is still streets ahead of any instructor we’ve had since.
So much so we will look to snaffle him this winter again..

Good plan, to book him early.
Ken is one of a kind.. and a kind man at that. Love his approach, his eye for details and picking up the minute changes that are needed, is nothing short of exceptional. Hopefully he will be back next season, no reason to think otherwise.

Another really good instructor at Big White is Scott Oxford - he's English, and quite a funny sense of humour - but most of all, he knows his stuff and I like the way he puts his tips into practice. We did a first tracks lesson with him in February that was incredible.
