So I went out on a limb and ordered a few of the new BD Jetforce Packs which just arrived. We've sold quite a few ABS packs over the last few years and I think this new technology is going to kill compressed gas airbags pretty quickly due to their ease of flying and also ability to have multiple discharges on remote trips etc.

Sit down before you see the price, which is actually going up next year too!:eek:

Not sure if I will grab one for myself just yet, I've got a perfectly good ABS and leave my canisters in Europe so that takes out the flying drama, but if I were in the market there's no other I would consider.

You got the Avalungs too. I don't understand the Black Diamond product range.

They assume that the Jetpack and Avalung are two mutually exclusive Avalanche safety measures. I would of thought that top of the line packs would incorporate both features?

I think that would just over complicate things. When it comes to the crunch you probably only have the chance to do one thing.

They have completely different functions/purposes, one being-burial prevention, the other post burial survival. IMO they complement each other.

    Excellent.
I have been considering one of these or a cannister model for a while and think I will for the euro season after this one which I will be missing.
Great to have a local stockist of the cutting edge
The integration into my mountain pack needs gives me a headache LOL just when I was happy....

I've not had any major issues travelling through & to Europe, North America, Asia or NZ with the Canister of an ABS bag, maybe some checkin counters looking up the rules but thats about it.

The fan tech is the future, but it's not here yet IMO. Needs a few more years to get lighter / better.

Yeah, the technology has had quite a few glitches, particularly with the batteries failing in extreme cold temperatures, so it would definitely be worthwhile waiting a while longer.

Yeah, the fan is the way to go. Gear needs to be simple, easy to use & easy to travel with.

Awesome! And I think the price is about what I was expecting given the exchange rate etc.

If I hadn't just dropped $6k last night on emergency flights to the +1's home, this would be under the personal chrissy tree for sure.

Yeah the price is about the same as paying full US RRP, expecting 10% GST to be added by customs and $100 odd for shipping.

I have been nagging BD Oz for a year for them, they weren't on any of their pricelists or anything but finally told me a couple of months ago that I could get a few on their next shipment so I took the plunge and ordered a few.

Great call. Have been following with interest for the last 18 months. Price aside, I think they'll dominate the market in years to come.

i wanted one really bad until i tried one. the weight and lack of features (straps) put me off.
will be great in a few years time once the product gets more development.

One of the better features of the ABS is the versatility that can be achieved by the interchangeable packs.

I'm sure Black Diamond will develop the cosmetic features in time.

I recon the head, neck wrap bag designs should be standard. Mammut removable system is also a great idea

Best all round pack for travelers. you actually bet to test them as much as you like and can test different ways to pack and clip on gear to the outside to make sure it wont foul the air bags. But the best feature of the bag is the continuous inflate for 5 mins (in case of small puncture) and then deflate feature that creates an air pocket. Go and test one out they are the only way to go.
    Ive got the Saga 40.

I'd love to have one but at the current RRP if I purchased one, being buried in an avalanche would be the least of my problems.

Definitely on my wish list though... That and skiing in the terrain where I could consider one as a mandatory safety device.
