at least the AWS seems to be broke so we won't be able to cry over the amount of r@#n that falls this arvo.

Headed up Friday a.m. for a few days. +1 & kids will stay for the school hols. Should be a fun 2 weeks and hoping to be there for the best of it.

    Re: Blizzards at Buller

The BOM obs site hasn't recorded any precip since 9.00 a.m. yesterday - how do you figure that's working fine Heli ?? - I just mean at least we don't have to watch the precip data carnage as at Baw Baw atm ( I know the temps, etc are all up there )

Just spoke to a mate who owns a business up there . He reckons nearly 20 cm has fallen ( could be pumped up a bit ) and has just turned to rain in the Village in last 15 minutes or so.

    Re: Blizzards at Buller

OK, so it hasn't recorded precipitation: that's not unusual (as TJ would say), but the AWOS is certainly working in all other respects.

    I'm only answering your comment

Interesting, but I still don't trust the precip reading on that site.

Everything else works fine or at least indicates as "--" when it's not working

Up to you: it seems to be working fine, especially if you look at the figures since midday, and the rain showing on the cameras, and the current 20.4mm since lunchtime [IMG]

By the way, the "-" is because there is no pressure reading from this site, not because it isn't working.

Is there anyone able to give an idea of what is going on up at Buller? I am curious to know if this rain has done much damage, and if so, how much.

The rain can't be doing much good, but there's still a definite net gain. It was snowing as hard as I've seen it snow here this morning.

Yeah I guess we will not get a true indication untill the morning, when ski patrol do a full sweep, fingers crossed for some snow fall tonight, to put beyond doubt that the mountain will get a net gain.

    Re: Blizzards at Buller

Carveman, I'm a little confused - why would Blizzards at Buller be moved out of Snow Talk, yet dumping at Falls Creek and Hotham is still there ?????

Not everyone who comes to this forum wants information on one resort only.

Put things back the way they were - segmenting resorts like this is not a positive change for this forum.

I wonder if it suits Buller not to have a functioning rain gauge in the winter?

Only as much as it would suit any other resort.

Buller gets about 2/3 of the precip of the other resorts, be it rain or snow.

    Re: Blizzards at Buller

The reason that meaningful resort-specific discussions are being moved to the resort forums is that ski.com.au has discontinued its public reports, and is now linking the latest 5 threads on each resort forum to that resort's snow report page.

This discussion holds particular relevance to those reading the snow report.

We need to remember that only the minority of users of ski.com.au use the forums (and therefore contribute to ad revenue), so if the forums are used to complement the revenue generating sections of the site it is good for the community as a whole.

The "Dumping in Falls and Hotham" thread has no particular home on one single resort's report page, so it will stay in Snow Talk.

Damage from the cams/reports looks like 0-20cms of lost snow. Predictions of around 20-40cms over the next 5 or so days so it will be a net gain
