Went up Bogong via Erksdale Spur on Sat morning staying the night at Michel Hut and parking at Camp Creek Gap. On the hike up to the hut here was only a light dusting of snow on the trail from about 1400 onwards. We were the only 4 at the Hut on Saturday night and saw around 5cms accumulate overnight with some pre-frontal sleet.

    Snowfall Sunday AM :

On a Sunday Summit mission visibility was low and the wind was forming a crust towards the top that saw us potholing quite a bit. We turned around at about half a km from the summit.

On The way up Erksdale the snow was nice on the southern slopes but still a bit bony, we didn't ride anything due to visibility and fear of what lurked beneath the surface. The trail from the hut to the summit still needs half a metre to cover over the rocks and make it rideable back down to Michel Hut.

Driving back along Camp Creek Rd we encountered a large fallen tree that luckily for us someone had just cut a car sized gap in. Thanks if that was you!

Sounds like a typical early season trip! Good exercise, and nice to get out, but that's it!

Nice report.....nice to see the snow in backcountry.....was much debri down on walking track.....
Team Bears will come up there soon and cut whatever has fallen down over Track..
Love the curve of snow/ice on side of the roof....

Good snow report from you pics and observations....thank you...

Oh we were formulating plans to make a mini seat for inside the hut ....like two flat planks off ground so one can sit close to fire...this is still in design stages.....but we will see what we can achieve this winter.

It was tough bashing through some of the bushier parts of the track but the track was pretty clear, nothing that was difficult to get around or over.

Seats would be a great idea beside the fire, it was the first time for us at Michel Hut and we loved it, thanks for all the work you do!

Well I have not done much this winter.....I normally find a bigger Log and drag it in so you can sit on it by fire but I reckon we deserve better than this......I got some timber awhile back....and will construct a long low seat but solid and strong....no back just a low bench affair.Make it up ....then dismantle it and bring it up over a couple of trips and reassemble it.Sounds easy !!!
yep that bushy bit from the little creek is the pits in new snow..sure to get bloody wet...
Glad you had a nice time...it's good when only a few folk are around there.
