Designed for Avenza Maps app on mobile devices, using a couple of different sources. Download a topo map of the Mt Bogong area from Avenza store (eg SV Maps 'Bogong Alpine Area' 1:50k). Save the .txt file to computer & change file extension from .txt to .kml. Email the .kml file to yourself & collect the email on your device. Import the kml contents into the Avenza map using the app's Layers tool (second icon from right at bottom of Avenza UI). Click on individual tracks for pop-up showing run name & length. Contents can be edited in Avenza app or (easier) by importing .kml into Google Earth.
Wow that's crazy, I live not far from the bottom of bogong and it's amazing how the white stuff is still holding on with some of the warm days we have had, though so far it's been a mild summer and somewhat delayed one.
Thanks Kirktab, copied overlayed on google earth then saved to Garmin Base Camp. looking forward to using them.
If anyone else uses google earth a lot ... here's a google earth kmz file with: - 1:50 Topo overlaid - Runs and run names in the sub folders https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4mttat007dm062r/AAA_np7sBJAU8Lh2EkcwQptUa?dl=0 Also; something I use quite a lot which others may find helpful is a GPS conversion website. http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input Quite useful to create .gpx files from lists of coords, google maps directions etc. And back to google earth if needed too. Quick way to convert UTM to lat/long as well. Redfearn website isn't that easy ...!
Awsome maps, just downloaded Avenza and worked out how to get the bogong map! So good does anyone know a similar one for the Fainters?
Wow, that's a tall order. The Fainters don't have a cushy club hut (and actually take some effort to get to), so they probably aren't visited enough for anyone to have plotted or named runs. Just get Google Earth on a desktop computer & start looking for prospective runs. You can draw track lines on Google Earth & export these to Avenza.
Mt Bogong has always been known for its named runs. Now that Anna has bought up The Fainters, it's made me wonder if Mt Feathertop has named runs? While Mt Bogong has a "cushy club hut" and a good public hut, Feathertop also has both of those plus it used to have a proper hotel on the mountain for skiers. Does anyone know the names of any ski runs on Feathertop or have they all been lost? Cut ski runs on Bungalow Spur in 1934.
