    I find it a bit strange to automate the Townsville BOM station. Surely the RAAF base and significant army presence in town would have had a case to oppose the decision, the RAAF in particular.

    This is just how the weather gets recorded isn’t it?

    Does that really need a person involved in this day and age? Or does having someone with a ruled notebook writing down the hourly temperatures make a difference?

    I believe they still have 2 x forecasters purely for RAAF forecasting only.
