I am bow legged and even when I adjust the canting on both sides of my head boots my leg is not centered. I tried adding some material to the top of the cuffs to center my leg and this helped me ski in more balance.

Does anyone here know of a good boot guy in Australia or Christchurch that really knows their stuff?

    Thanks in advance.

Surely professional bootfitters are a waste of time? :out:

Though the bandy legs may explain your skiing problems.

If you don't have worldcup feet, professional alignment is essential.

    Get it done asap.

Emkai, I did download the Harb technical manual on boot alignment. Bloody complicated and just too much for me. It also stressed on snow tests of the alignment and that further adjustment or canting could be needed too. Thanks dumpfish for the Christchurch shop.

I had a similar problem but bandy legged.
No amount of adjustment on my boots (Head also ) worked.
Some may scorn but my boot fitter advised glueing thin packers to my skis under the outside edge near the bindings may help.
Worked a treat and straightened up my stance big time.
Only thing is you have a left and right hand ski and swap the packers over now and then.

Gettingtooold, you can get your boots soles grinded to the right angle you are using and the part that touches the bindings routed to the correct thickness. Then you can use any skis with the correct canting in the boots. A good boot fitter would be able to do this. You can buy plastic canting strips to go under the bindings with different angles from USA too.

If you ground out the boot wouldn’t that effect how it sits in the binding? Potentially effecting the way the binding releases?

This is where the boot sole grinding part comes in with a very specific grinding of the top of the heel and toe pieces so that the boots are still within DIN standards. So no effect on binding releases.

Oddly enough I would normally counsel lessons to overcome something like this.

But maybe not in this instance.

    Seriously.

Ive read that some expert skiers say that 50% of skiers have boot canting issues that effect their sking. Good for the boot industry though.

Leg bowing isn't the main issue.

Resolving pronation/supination is where it's at.

Survey of beginner dropouts showed MOST OF THEM had simple but extreme canting issues.
Ski hire should add canting strips when they adjust the bindings.
Sue them for loss of fun. Big money.

Tread lightly people, you could be stepping on the OP's toes. BTW I have the same problem. Bow legged that is. Also have a problem with terrible puns. I haven't put my orthotics into my ski boots yet. I tried them but they need shaving down a bit first but it could solve the problem. Ended up with a pressure point on my right outside ankle bone today which may be due to pronating too much.

Yes this is a difficult area to solve without real expert help. Ive put cantering strips under my bindings that have helped a bit along with cuff adjustment. It still feels not right when I ski balanced on one foot though. I wonder how many boot fitters in Australia are expert in boot canting issues. According to overseas experts you need to do online snow tests to check the boot alignment and how many boot fitters do that?
Here is a video on adjusting cuffs in your boots.

Dps yes but good info on that site. I am not affiliated with them in anyway and have never done a lesson with them.
