Peter Corney (Epic Freeride, Poetry for the People) is raising funds to publish a biography of Eric Hymans, a Falls Creek legend and pioneer of the freestyle skiing movement. Get on-board with GoFundMe here $20 for the PDF version of the book $50 will get you a copy of the paperback (plus PDF). Proceeds go to Eric and his son. Anyone with an affection for Falls Creek and the colorful history of it's villagers should check this initiative out. (I've got me a copy ordered).
I got my copy of the pdf version today, (the printed version will be out shortly). It's well written and quite a good read. Despite not being into freestyle skiing that much, the book has a lot more than that including big chunks of stuff on Falls Creek in the 1970s and 80s, a bit on Bob Hymans and a lot on the 20 year long party that was Eric Hymans' life and the effect it has on him today. I read the whole 228 pages in half a day, and it normally takes me a week to read a book that size. It was simultaneously funny, sad and informative.
I received as well. Have not finished but the writing is smooth and makes it an easy read. Reminds one of how loose the 70’s & 80’s were! Glad I caught the second half.
I think the book was actually launched on Sunday too, as part of the return of the summit masters mogul event
Perhaps a sad life the last fifteen. He burned twice as bright as most anyone here for a good twenty years though.
This is the exact truth, I am his mother "Mireille" (now aged 87yrs), Eric has had a nice life all together, specially with his two sisters and I while in Europe. Eric passed out on September 9th, 2018 and I found it very disturbing that Mr.Peter Corney published that book without even checking its contain , while per example the photo of Bob Hymans and myself boarding a plane was taken in 1954 when we were just married and I was flying to Australia for the very first time and we arrived in Sidney on April 7, 1954 . Eric was born on December 21, 1957, so it was totally impossible to date that picture as 1957 ...... and it is not the only untrue thing mentioned in this book, which makes me very sad and unhappy . Mr. Peter Corney does not give any address where he can be reached so this forum is my only chance to try re-establish a few things . At my age and living here in Belgium since over 50 years now my english is no longer very good but enough to share my feelings ! From time to time I occasionally drop a line in this forum, but my knowledge of all the new technologies is not good enough to send photos of Falls Creek dating from 1954 to 1959 ..... and I am sorry for that ! Mireille (10/14/2018).
Thank you for posting Mireille. I knew Eric a little in recent years and also your daughter when she has visited Mt Beauty. I'm sure Peter meant no harm, just some honest mistakes.
Hi! Nice to see some people have thoughts for Eric who in his earlier years was a tremendous skier and a real nice boy . Unfortunately his later years were not so bright and little by little bits he destroyed himself, nothing could help him .... a very very sad end of life . Today I received an e-mail from Chaeron , although I can understand what I am reading, I really cannot understand what it is and have been extremely shocked by it ! any explanation ? My older daughter Brigitte is now often staying a couple of months in Mount Beauty, whe, necessary she deals the family problems which may arise and can be reached at John Magharan in Mount Beauty, being an ederly woman and leaving in Belgium I cannot be of much help, sorry.
@MIROU I have not sent you an email - please ignore it, I did not know Eric at all, and have no idea what is in the email. I am really sorry if someone is doing something silly to upset you. We remember Eric for his amazing skiing. We’ll try to work out what has gone on, but please do not be troubled.
My guess is that Mirou inadvertently has email notifications on for all notification activity and the last thing that triggered was @Chaeron 'liking' Mirou's initial post. Alternately Chaeron has PM'd Mirou but I suspect not. I can't adjust members personal settings, without doing a database hack so suggest everyone avoid 'liking' Mirou's post least it triggers further unwanted emails.
Hi to you all ! let's say that perhaps I am too sensible to whatever relates to Eric and then worry too quickly and too much, now that I have let my heart speak, let it be . Eric is at peace now, just respect and remember him . I shall always remember the Old Falls Creek of the 1950's ! M.
Yeh, I accidentally liked an earlier post of hers today before getting further down and seeing the request not to. Sorry.
