FYI the road between Molesworth and Yea is being widened what looks like the whole way.
The works are on one side for each section, but mostly the inside of corners, making the
road a little straighter. They are extending and adding extra overtaking lanes. As well as
adding the barriers down the middle, adding shoulders to allow vehicles to stop off the
road proper. Some sections are currently 60km/h, sometimes there are lights with only
one lane being shared. I look forward to the finished work.

    More info here.

These improvements are very welcome but overdue. The road quality (surface has gone backwards over the last decade or so - probably as a results of BDoubles (trucks bigger than semis) using the road as an alternative to the Hume (why do we allow such stupidity.) and now in increasing nos.

But users and hence congestion and frustration have increased. But despite presumably the ever-increasing fines on the road to Buller, there's been few real gains in road quality to show.

Surely the Melba is now busy enough you to be duplicated to Mansfield? As it stands, There's only been a handful of new overtaking locations added since I started skiing in 85'. And the traffic has what! Doubled? Tripled at holiday times?

...hopefully we'll see other (narrow/rutted) sections upgraded in the next few years? Not holding my breath though.

    Fantastic.

With those improvements I look forward to the 100km/h limit being reinstated.

I think that's built in to the thing. Bloody hell, everything else seems to be built into it.
