    SUMMER WORKS ACTIVITIES

Mt Buller will see a lot of investment this year with new retail and accommodation facilities being built and the Blue Bullet Chair Lift being replaced. We will be working hard to support these important investment projects, whilst also maintaining our unique alpine environment for summer fun including bushwalking, running and mountain biking.

Construction activity will mean some temporary road lane closures across the summer. If you want to receive advanced notifications of these please sign up for our Stakeholder Notices by clicking here There may also be some increases in construction related traffic and noise, although we will be working had to minimise impacts during events and on weekends and there will be no construction activity between Christmas and New Year and the Easter long weekend.

    2018/19 Construction Projects
    • Bella Vista – Summit Road – This new apartment building with underground carparking will be ready for occupation in time for the 2019 snow season. There will be a crane on-site moving pre-caste elements into place until the six-story structure is in place. The crane will then be moved off the mountain and internal fit-out works will commence. Temporary road lane closures along Summit Road are expected, while the crane is operational. Traffic management will be in place.
    • Maganni Apartments – Chamois Road – This new 4 storey apartment building with underground carparking will be ready for occupation in time for the 2019 snow season. The construction method involving the use of prefabricated modules means that impacts will be minimal with a crane only needed for 1 to 2 weeks. Traffic management will be in place guiding visitors around Chamois Road when it is closed during crane movements.
    • Kooroora Hotel and Backpackers – Village Square – Construction of this new entertainment, retail, food and beverage, hotel and apartment complex will commence this year and finish in time for the 2020 snow season. Works this year will involve demolition of existing buildings and the construction of new underground carparking, the new Kooroora and ground floor retail space. Part of the Village and bus interchange area will be cordoned off and used for site shedding, deliveries and materials storage. Demolition works will be noisy, although we expect this phase to be complete by early December. The new building should be constructed by around March 2019 followed by internal fit-out works.
    • Whitehorse Village – Standard Lane – Works on the Whitehorse Village apartment development will continue this year. Village impacts are expected to be minimal given the location of the development. All materials being stored on site.
    • Blue Bullet Chair Lift Replacement – Our beloved Blue Bullet will be replaced this year with a new larger 6-seater chairlift. Construction will start in early October 2018 with demolition and ground works. Installation of the new lift will begin in April 2019. Pedestrian access under the lift area will be restricted and construction traffic along The Avenue is expected.

The Resort Management Board will also be undertaking a lot of works this year to improve village roads, drains and carparks. Stairways connecting carparks will also be installed this year making it easier and safer for visitors to travel from carparks to bus stations and on to the Village. We will also be undertaking works to increase carparking capacity and build a new all-weather helipad for air ambulance services.

We look forward to seeing you during summer – come and enjoy summer fun activities and watch some historic moments as the Kooroora comes down and the new Blue Bullet goes up.

Please check the resort updates section of the website for updates such as road closures throughout Summer.

Dam will be the following year, they've only just appointed somebody to run the project. Insufficient time to do the design, tender the works and execute it prior to next season.

Hopefully next season is like this year and last year with good snowfalls through August, thus reducing the dependancy on snowmaking

Very nice stuff. Mobile snow factory will be very useful when they are trying to open Wombat. Though haven't seen any permits for the platter.

Wonder what permits they need if it's the same footprint as the rope tows? They might be able to use the existing footings, these kinds of lifts are pretty basic, the drive is the size of a football.

didnt need such big machines to push the Kooroora over , the only thing that held it together was the 40 years of beer stained carpet and tar soot from cigarette smoke on the ceilings that had accumulated providing the necessary glue to keep it going to 2018 . You could have pushed that building over by simply a bang with a hammer sideways, analogous to the ease of which it is possible to push someone on skis sideways in a crowded lift queue and push them over.

Hey a question for you locals. Are they demolishing the ridiculously oversized Blue Bullet midstation buidling as part of the 6 seater replacement. It will not be a cheap thing to do of course. That building and its location and size is really a blight on the landscape and available ski terrain.

new 6 seater top is like ABOM, old blue building moves up hill, beyond the lift as I understand it, to include the snow factory. One would hope it gets a new look at the same time.

Available slope, agree it's not a big issue but every width you can get on Bourke street is a bonus due to congestion

The new snow factory is a shipping container so there's a 40' wide obstruction no matter what.

Spoke to someone on the weekend - he said that the dismantling of the stations had been slow going due to needing to be careful with some asbestos but that was all sorted and they should come down pretty quick now, he said that Doppelmayr are on-site from first week of Jan to get the new lift built.

Little birdie just told me that over summer we will be seeing snowmaking on Mens Downhill and also a portable snow factory - initially it will be located on Little Bourke St but can then be relocated, most likely to snowplay areas.

Why do they need to cut a helipad? Surely they could land at either Buller itself, or Sheepyard?

the fire is on the south side of Mt Little Buller. You cannot drive there , I assume they are cutting a helipad so they can land and put crews on the ground

Sounds overly officious and tedious. I guess those that fail will just spout their standard line "Dont you know who I am - I am the one who has the right to drive around the village to pick up my pizza"

I’m in favour of it, there’s been a bunch of Friday nights with carnage in the Village which made everyone have to fit chains. If people had the right tyres then it would have been smooth sailing.

This will catch out a couple of my mates with performance soft-roaders with not enough clearance etc.

That said after the last 2 epic seasons they will enforce this and we will have a couple of crappy years with zero snow on the road!! LOL ROFL

Unfortunately there will still be drivers that will end up like that - but at least now they will have the correct proper fitting chains in the boot... "It was too cold and snowing to hard for me to get out of the car and put the chains on..."
