All indications early in the season suggest it was a success, I wonder how the resort thought it went ?

I guess if we see other hills put them in that that would a clear indication it went well and might become standard in all the big resorts as a way of getting their main beginner run open early and reliably

I wonder when they choose not to run it ?

Once they had set a base ? and natural starting falling or a bit later into the season

Definite success. Other resorts talking about it. Friday Flat would be a no-brainer.

Not sure where somewhere like Hotham would use it though Big D ?

Falls said not practical for wombats and that's where there would most want it. back of the envelope calc said that they can get more bang for their snowmaking bucks from other improvements

Interesting. I haven't noticed the bagging of LM's slushy machines on this forum since Buller purchased a big one. Oh, one or 2 calling it 'fake snow', but that's clearly stupid.

    Absolutely!!
Oh can you imagine the improvement there if you could lay down a thick base in positive temps.

i think that it sounds good as a base builder, but not for surface snow

Would have worked better if they didn't spread it till the last minute.

I hear they lost a bit from ground melt.

This season really wasnt the season to properly acid-test it. Wait for a low-snow year to see how it stacks up.

You'd want to see how it compares in a season where you need snowmaking to open runs. When the wet bulb temperatures are too high to run fan guns and all you have is the slushy machine i'd be interested to see how much more cover you can make.

Does anyone think there is a likelihood for Mt Buller to invest in another one of these? Maybe for other areas of the mountain (i.e: toboggan areas or the north side)?

My thinking is that it is in no way intended to be a skiable surface, but provides a means to freeze the ground so any snow be it natural or man made has a far better chance to consolidate. IMO man made snow is absolute crap to ski on and border line whether it's better than none, but if these machines provide a base in marginal areas to enhance snow accumulation, it's all good.

clearly the machine was a complete success, clearly installing the machine is why we had such a great year.

I think if they install 5 more this summer, it could be enough for Murphy to make for even a better season next year

PS The snow it makes is very ski-able, very low water content, unlike the traditional snow making.
