Hot on the heels of Falls Creek's political spending comes this in regards to Mt Buller.

MOUNT Buller's board of management spent almost $5500 on two dinners attended by the then Victorian environment minister, John Thwaites, and his wife during the opening of this year's ski season.

Over the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June, three of Mr Thwaites' advisers also received almost $2000 worth of accommodation at the 4½-star Arlberg Hotel.

Documents, obtained under freedom-of-information laws, show that the board racked up a bill of almost $2000 for a dinner at the Duck Inn on June 9 — just a week before The Age published revelations that Mr Thwaites had been receiving free luxury ski trips from alpine boards appointed by him.

ill say it before and ill say it again , too many boards running resorts that are too small to justify the enormous cost of fixed management costs .

In today's Herald-Sun it said that Mr Thwaites had also enjoyed free hospitality at Hotham as well, including tickets, ski and clothing hire, meals, totalling several weeks.

No wonder he "retired", when he did! I'd like to know the total number of nights he stayed at Buller, Hotham and Falls Creek... I wonder if he skied at Baw Baw too...

But despite politicians (probably of all parties) having their "snouts in the trough", I don't think we should let our disgust at Thwaites, et. al. stop us remembering the incompetence of the Falls Creek board and especially their very dodgy CEO. They make Buller look relatively efficient, economical and proactive by comparison.
