Screw it my mate has booked the same weekends as me. at $24/month it isn't going to break the bank.

Problem being the ferals don't read the rules anyway, so it just makes it harder for the good ones who mostly do and treat them as gospel.

Yeah that's the concern. In theory we've just ensured more space in island bend but in practice FIIK if it will make any difference.

Yep, better get booking. Somehow I don't think they will permit me to stay for 3 months this year. Just as well I forked out $400K for a block of land in Jindy I'm not allowed to live on!! Will just have to camp illegally on my own land for a bit here and there.

Can you get planning permission for a 'festival'?

Maybe, but definitely No. I was actually looking up the fees and charges the other day and it's quite expensive to apply for a Festival or Event. That aside, can a festival run for 3 months?

Important message for anyone planning to camp in Kosciusko NP this year:- You can book your horse in!
I'm serious: Booking form says: No. Adults ___. No. Children ___. No. Horses ___. ?

A very long way from everybody
Check the reservation page on the Parks website...max 7 nights per booking, max stay 14 nights. For 14 nights, you'll need 2 bookings. And book ahead, it will book out. You can only book 90 days out, I've been booking every weekend as they become available.

Rangers have been checking over summer.

Also re working - you know there's no/limited mobile reception if internet is required?
So to deal with this I plan to spend 14 days at Island Bend, move to Thredbo Diggings for a week (will cost me $139 extra for Skitube), then back to IB for the last week. I'll need to fill my water tank up after a couple of weeks anyway.

Need to claim you are a bushfire victim.

Your block is already full of van-lifers. 6 of them.

Apply for a NSW secutity licence, cant be too hard , register a business and the block with the van on it
Can be your staff room/ registerd office. 24/7 operation.

Creative thinking there; I love it! A Council guy owning a neighbouring block has approval to live on his block - as a caretaker.

Jacko radical idea mate but maybe staying at the campground for three months over winter isn't in the spirit of the thing?

Agree. Last year was "different". Covid made moving about not such a good thing and the Rangers were happy our group stayed put for the duration as an exception. Normally, I mix up staying in Kozi, Jindabyne and Dalgety. The original 4 weeks annual holiday morphed into 8 weeks and then 12 weeks, hence buying a block of land to get a foot in the market before it's too far gone.

Some issues coming up in the camping arena for sure. On this forum alone there seems to have been a dramatic increase in campers over the last 20 years. Numbers and length of stay used to self regulate due to climate and lack of facilities. Now with better availability and low cost of camping with off-grid power and heating there are issues arising which would never have been considered when camping areas were established.

Not sure where i stand on the issue. The booking system and fees are bullshit for someone like me that wants to do quick no nonsense overnight camping in a swag at the last minute and will not use any facilities. I am in and out in the dark only. Informal camping. Bookings are for caravan parks.

The booking system came about to try and keep the season dwellings away. About seven years ago a caravan was left unattended at the diggings for most of the year and was essentially used as a private dwelling in a public camp ground. The unintended consequence of the booking system is the systematic blanket booking of space to ensure one will not miss out. Meaning plenty of people miss out whilst the camp ground has space available.

Not sure where it will go. Commercialised NPWS won't have an issue with pre-booked untilised space. It means they are getting money for no service.

I try to not and make too much noise.

Agree, the booking system does mess up a short notice in and out affair. Even with the van last year we were up and out of the campground by around 7.

I noticed last year on the weekends that were 'booked out' the NP campgrounds were really empty.

The booking system is part of covid restrictions.

So when all covid restrictions are lifted, booking will be cancelled.
Wouldn't count on it. It's not a lot of revenue but it does give parks more data about use, and that's probably worth more in the long run.

Last year there was no online option to change or cancel a booking. This year there is, so hopefully that will help with no shows.

The leisure centre situation was a factor in both where I got a season pass and how much camping I would do this season. The leisure centre was the only reason I was prepared to camp for more than overnight.

Was at the leisure center a couple of weeks ago for a swim and the kids did the inflatable. I dont think the website is quite up to date. Yes, we had to book in for a 1 hour time slot but the change rooms and showers were operational.

We discuss this last friday. Thredbo staff lurkers decided to email me on tuesday with a season pass benefits email that specifically mentioned Leisure Centre updates.

"As a season pass holder enjoy the ultimate in flexible lift access with your chosen Winter 2021 Season Pass option, daily Thredbo Leisure Centre access and more."

Clicking on the above link confirms bookings are required for winter access.

Skibums booking just for a shower are not welcome.

Can’t you just book in for a lap and then wash off the chlorine.

well my kids seem to think swimming and water slides are appropriate post skiing activities, so I best save the number so we can make our bookings

Skibums booking in for a time slot then using it for a shower rather than pool access followed by a shower would be no different to any other booking. Just means you have to turn up within the booked hour.

Id book early - they have been booking out over summer and I can only see winter being even more busy. They start kicking everyone out a 50mins past the hour (or 10 to) so the next lot of booked people can come in - the water flow to the slide gets turned off to get the kids attention too.

The leisure centre have to work with limited space and covid restrictions.

The situation just can't be helped until restrictions ease.

Yes, it's annoying, but can't be fixed.

I think taking a 1hr booking space is a bit irresponsible for us skibums on the resort. We should leave the spots for holidaymakers that actually use the entire facilities.

It's a tough season again and as experienced snow people, we should do what we can to help them through it. Even if it means missing out on free hot showers.

How early in advance can you book

Not sure why people are so obsessed with showering.
A weekend would be fine. If solo I would do a week, hell I have gone over a month in hot climates being hot and sweaty carrying bulk equipment (mind you you know you really stink when you get in your bivi bag and it makes you gag).

With the kids though during school holidays we are going to need a few visits.

We should leave the spots for holidaymakers that actually use the entire facilities.
Myself and the kids will still be swimming and sliding. I think my youngest might also be able to do the inflatable course now too. If it is open this year.

If anything having a time limit works in my favour. Was always a challenge trying to get the kids out of the pool

Not sure why people are so obsessed with showering. I have two a day at home but i happily go a whole week down in the cold without it bothering me. I'd rather be in my own filth than share common shower floor filth with hundreds of others.
For me it's normally the smell of campfire smoke that gets to me first. It's good to be able to rinse that off.
