It has been a while since I have had the need to park the car (overnight) not at Perisher. (I am usually lucky [IMG] )

Is free overnight parking still available at Sawpit Creek behind the old service station?

    Ta

Yep, still free, but the same old crap trying to hitch a lift back up the hill. I think there was a "cabbie" who you could book, but not sure these days

And it's no longer the old service station. It is now all part of the NPWS Park gates area now.

Passed a guy last Saturday trying to hitch up to Thredbo from outside Lake Crackenback Resort on the Alpine Way, he was flashing a $50 note to try and get people to pick him up, we were too full or we would have.

You'd think some local would have set up a cheap all day shuttle bus service from Jindy-bulloks flat terminal-thredbo with bus stops along the way

Why not park at the Tube? Free, and a lot more convenient. If you don't want to pay for the Tube for your whole party drive up to Perisher, unload then drive back to Bullocks Flat and catch the Tube up. Reverse on the way home.

Each year, we stay in Perisher at a lodge for a week. I got sick of paying the $309 for the four of us for an open return ticket.
So i've been doing the drop off at Perisher, then drive around and pay the $87 open return(plus 2x $30 NP entry) to save some dollars.. this saves me about $162 for about an hour and a halves wasted time.
just wondering if Sawpit was still an option, or did it shut down years ago?

According to the Sundeck website, Sawpit must not be a option anymore?
They suggest parking at the ski tube or using the Jindabyne car minding service:
    http://www.sundeckhotel.com.au/location-access
Edit: Also found this, which suggests it's still a possibility however parking is in public carpark within the National park so $27per day fee applies:

    Cheers Zimboo!
i'm not sure how up to date the Swagman's website is, about it still mentions Sawpit as an option.
I've your stay a week I guess it's $27x7 = $190 + $20 worth of bus fee's. For that coin. it would be best getting an Annual Nation Parks -pass.

    Sawpit Creek Carpark

There is a public car park 15 kms down the road from Perisher directly behind the National Parks entrance station (so a National Parks pass is required whilst the car is parked there - costs $27 per 24 hours). Snow chains must be carried by all 2WDs. There is a limited bus service during the day which must be pre-booked by phoning John at Jindabyne Motors Alpine Charters on 6456 7340 or 0414 400 378. Cost is $10 one way.

A couple in our lodge at Smiggins have always used Sawpit Mick who has a yard in Jindy and shuttles you up and back in either your car or his 4WD (depending on road conditions). I don't know his prices or anything but he's been a business for a long while.

    $160 + park entry fees x 2............so $218.

I guess people might be put off by the driving but it's the easiest solution
