as a relative beginner in skiing, I can see the merits (assuming it works)

I'm learning to do half a dozen different things at once that are not natural and i can't afford to have an instructor follow me all day reminding me to do all the things.

This thing could help to reinforce the thing i might forget. once the lesson with instructor has finished

    Says

"The inserts have been designed to work with custom insoles since we are aware of how much people love custom insoles! "

"They are ~1mm thin and can be placed between the liner and shell or between the insole and liner."

    And 1mm thick too

true, but I'm looking at it purely from a learning training tool - would certainly help a beginner make rapid progress

An interesting gizmo. Could be an excellent training tool for analyzing pressure and edge angle difference between ski sides.

Unless the developers have been really smart, the trick will be finding a way to ensure that their feedback will click to punters. I defer to the real life destructors here, but my understanding that 78.2%* of the art of instructing is to find the way that simple concepts are conveyed to an individual.

*Plus or minus 78%. 96.3% of statistics are invented on the spot.

    This.

I had a golf lesson the other day, the takeaway from it was three things. One was easy - put your foot there. Second was to do with the angle of my hips, and then the third I didn't really 100% get - even though he had an iphone app which filmed me and you could draw lines on the screen.

So when I went out on the course I decided to forget about the third thing, work on the second thing (cos the first thing is just something to remember) and I'll go back when I've got the hip thing down and revise number three. But in a cause and effect way, my limited understanding of number three could potentially be fixed by 1 & 2.

So yes it's absolutely about distilling complex technical info and being able to present it not only in a number of ways, but in ways that also cater to an individual's learning style. Fortunately I'm aware of this so I just prioritised what I thought I could manage, but feedback can be dangerous if it's not directed

This gizmo may well cater to a thinker type learner, but I'm not sure what it does for a feeler, watcher or do-er. But I like gizmos so I might get one just for fun.

I'm not so much thinking of it as a teaching tool., but more a training device that helps you to practice/master what you have already been taught

I corrected my post. not a learning tool, but a training tool.

Alas I havent mastered skiing after my first few lessons, and I see this device helping me correctly practice what my instructor has just finished showing me.

Ive seen people and done it myself, where we are shown one thing, then after the lesson is finished, go and practice incorrectly. In that scenario, you will continue to do that wrong thing until your next lesson.

a device reminding you more pressure here, or less pressure there would have to assist the process.

More useful for skiers that have enough experience to interpret the data and make changes to the body to improve the data. It would be interesting to see if the app is successful at doing this for a beginner/intermediate.

Just go skiing with people who are technically better than you. Best training there is.

I can see it helping with balance. It seems like almost everyone on the hill ends up in the backseat once they've left their class for the day, so a teacher nagging them about their stance for the rest of the time might help get them a little more centred.

Can it teach me how to whack my pole on a cornice?
