    Hi All,

We are flying to Europe at the end of the year and we just received and email telling us Cathay have increase their baggage allowances across all classes.

The email said that everyone now gets an additional 10kg...

    So basic terms
The new limits are 30kg for economy class, 40kg in business class and 50kg in first class and suites.

On top of that, KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Alliance Gold members will continue to enjoy an additional 20kg of baggage allowance across all travel classes (or one extra piece of checked-in baggage when travelling to or from the United States).

great if you're flying with one airline
returning from Zermatt early this year we went to Penang for the non-skier to have her holiday in the sun
most of the way weight was no problem but for some reason getting to KL meant a chickenshit airline called Firefly
    three people, $40+ each excess
could have been worse - at least we were able to carry boots on board

The trouble with having large luggage allowances is you tend to pack more than you need and connecting with other transport trailing 30 or 40 kgs of luggage around is a p.i.t.a. Like to keep mine sub 20kgs plus ski bag and boot bag.

    Cathay or Singapore?

It is interesting that 30kg is starting to become standard for economy. Emirates, Qatar, Malaysian, Thai, etc. all have 30kg in economy as standard.

    Singapore

    Lol!
No idea where Cathay came from

Would be great if a mod could amend so as not to confuse people who aren't in my head!

    I
I agree how ever having this limit means we aren't restricted with rules regarding number of Ski's in bags etc.

Also just means a little less stress.

So does that mean that you will use Singapore, but it's Cathay who's increased it by 10kg?

    But not elsewhere.
1 X 20kg bag to Japan previously. That's fun when you've got gear as well.

I dont think is unique to Cathay Pacific

Seems to be a country issue?

Yes it is a US only thing.

Most airlines give you 23kg x 2 via the US. Its why a lot of my mates came home from london via the states!

Hi, Flying to Tokyo with CP and considering bringing skis this time. Have apparently 30kg max. With respect the sports bags it references a max combined dimension of bag of LxWxD of 203cm. Looking at purchasing a double ski bag which ends up over this length. Has anyone had any experiences they can share. Do not want to get pulled up. Thanks.

My snowboard bag would have been over the 203cm limit from Perth to Sapporo and back last year, didn't have any issues. They weren't concerned with size, only weight.

I like the lower limits, forces me to really think about what I need when I am away. It has taken years to actually now pack only what we need, specially with the kids. :)
