Had to ditch Japan trip due to sacrificing my shoulder to some hard pack ice at the remarkables late this past season. Despite lots of milk drinking post surgery, doctor has told me no Japan.

So trying to sell the one accomodation that we couldn't cancel and ironically was the one luxury part of our trip, and cost the most!

Booking is at Chatel Ivy in Niseko for a Superior Room with Hirafu Mountain Views check in 3rd Jan check out 6th Jan, breakfast incl.

Paid approx $2100 ideally would like to get back half otherwise highest offer.

See if you can get a medical cert from your doc that they have advised against travelling to snowy areas due to the risk of slipping on ice and doing damage to your repaired shoulder. Then try again. In January it is a very real risk in Hirafu, and a valid medical justification for trip cancelation.

Good advice....this prompted me to re look at situation and I misread email from travel insurance company, looks like I might be covered as unable to participate in pre arranged activities. Also read my medical docs and states should not go on trip so should be sufficient as a directive.....lesson might be to read info better and no be do blasé. Thabks again for post, wouldn't have looked into it had I not read your advice

Yep, here I am skiing 3 weeks after displacing the greater tuberosity at the top of my humerus.

Surgeon said do not ski, local physio who works with elite skiers said don't fall.

    Such a difference!

Doc at Hotham when I broke my arm backslabbed it so it could swell on the flight home and said “Get yourself a thermoplastic cast when you get home tomorrow and once you’ve got that you’ll be right to get straight back out there”. He did qualify that with “don’t go crazy” and “I wouldn’t give this advice to a newby”.

The hand specialist doing the thermoplastic cast (who didn’t ski) was appalled and thought it was a special kind of madness.

You look much more nimble than I did three weeks after my surgery.....my range of motion is currently at approx 45%, at three weeks I was still unable to use the arm for much....maybe the doctor didn't do a good job screwing my shoulder together!

Different injuries are different. I did stick to the cross country skis for the first three months post injury, I only got the lifts once I'd had my all clear. My right arm want good for anything at that stage. In the photos is in a sling under my jacket.

That's true, after a dislocated elbow that lead to surgery in early 2000's at TC, a broken back in Whistler mid 2000's with 5 + years rehab, now this, I think my patience has worn thin with breaking myself so will take it easy for now

My mogul skier dislocated his shoulder at Water ramp 2 weeks before we were heading over to Japan. He was competing in a few events. Shoulder specialist said "your skiing career is over". Nasty, thoughtless person. Not nice to watch your child's whole world crumble. Anyway he competed 4 weeks after the dislocation. Was not great but he was back out there taking on the world again.

Even if you show them the medical certificate, they still don't let you cancel:(?. I know the owner of Chalet Ivy is building new hotels in Niseko Weiss area and Jozankei Onsen village = the Onsen village near Sapporo Kokusai ski resort now. If I were the owner, I would let you cancel if you book one of Chalet Ivy and the new hotels for next season:whistle:.

You might be able to sell it here.

Thanks for advice. We have been dealing with Chatel Ivy who originally said we could change the dates, asked to change to same time next year, they declined. Said we would extend stay and pay any rate diff for same dates next year, no to this to.

Never mind all hotels have their own policy, perhaps a little stringent however.
