I think the Chalet owner also owns Snowy FM which is what was playing on the speakers. Not my cup of tea, but probably better than Hot Country which I think he also owns (I confess to being a listener but my 12yr old says it will rot your brain and she is into death metal!)

A good compromise would be ABC Classic FM but I'm not sure the lifties would approve!

TBB what are your thoughts on the music?
I am not in favour of it except for being played during night skiing.
Sago

I must have had the Ipod up too loud as I didn't really hear it

You just cannot beat Led Zepplin or a bit of Spencer Davis mixed with Fleetwood Mac (for cruising)

See you soon

Hi TBB
FYI the resort can finally put Asher's legacy to bed in regards to grooming,
It was the most extensive since I have been here and the quality second to none.groomers have been helped with cold temps so all runs are packed powder. This past week has been the most enjoyable for all concerned,
Congrats to the groomers and mountain staff involved.
Another positive is the continued snow making topping up the key area's where they fell short last year.
Availability still around the lodges so well worth a visit.

Re: Charlotte Pass 2012

See you next week Sago - will probably do at least 2 day trips.

Will PM you when I know our itinerary - looking forward to those groomed runs. Off Rex's Ridge is a fun 20 second run with an easy landing zone - in some ways many of the CP runs are a bit like surfing - short blasts of adrenaline and then back on the lift to catch your breath.

Re: Charlotte Pass 2012

Hi mils,
If temps stay cold will be more of the same.
Groomed packed powder and fresh of piste.
Village busy next week but with all lifts should be no problem with lift lines.
If availability with $2 Tuesday definitely worth a day trip.
Winds have eased as well as snow but still a good little freshnr helps the cause

Re: Charlotte Pass 2012

We were intent on heading to the pass today, but with the wind, I knew we would be protected at Smiggs and I have not been to CP before so I didn't take the risk.

My question is, comparing CP to somewhere relatively sheltered like Smiggs or Guthega, would CP have been better or worse today, or does it cop the bad conditions bad, like happy valley?

Re: Charlotte Pass 2012

Today was terrible.T only thing opened for inter/advanced.
Tonight ,gale force winds and driving snow.we do need the winds to ease for extra lifts to open tomorrow.
Smiggs was the right call for today and for days like today.

Hi mils,
One word description,
Fantastic!!!
Weather still nasty though but the sunny breaks have appeared.Tomorrow will be a day not to miss. Were some ice patches because of the wind but generally 20cms was the consistent depth.Wind blown areas even deeper.

Re: Charlotte Pass 2012

Hi TBB,
A number of lodges have installed there own wireless hotspot,It is source from the lodges internal adsl connection,so doesn't have black spots like airlan does.So you would need to be in the confines of a lodge that has it.Your lodge should install there own.Speak to me if they are interested
Warm out there today but I sure it won't damage to much of the cover.

Re: Charlotte Pass 2012

I recently spent a couple of days at CP and was very impressed with how things are going this year.

The grooming is the best I've ever seen. Runs all over the place that open up a lot more terrain.

They should take advantage of the great snow and groom Avalanche. Doesn't need to be done the day of a big snow - but the following day would make sense as the snow is just glug after 24 hours and hardly anyone tries to ski it. The current conditions are a great opportunity to expand the groomed area into the whole southern part of the bowl.

The other option they have is to build some jumps to the left of the Chair looking up. There's plenty of snow there to play with and again the left side is largely unused as by August the snow is just glug and next to impossible to push through.

Other than that CP is having its best year in a long time - and I wish I could spend the rest of the season there completely cutoff from the rest of Australia.

Call the Chalet and see what deals they can offer - they are really trying hard to make it financially attractive to come and stay there.

Re: Charlotte Pass 2012

Hot chocolate morning, cannot complain because the skiing has been great. Started a couple of days ago with blue skies and a mountain of groomed runs. Yesterday was cloudy, but the morning allowed for some powder skiing down hard packed runs. The snow has been great, but the grooming is fantastic. Great to see so many runs. Now we just need to wait for the sun to come back out.
