Counted 7 large snow machines at CP today. Looked like they were starting to place them out for some initial testing - water supply - could even make some tonight with current condition. Not sure where they are getting the water from for that many machines - as lack of supply has been part of the issue with getting more snow making at CP.

For the dedicated CPV followers word is the first lodge(Alitji alpine Lodge) has folded and will not open this year. This lodge has a lot of memories for me and no doubt many others. The uncertainty of the the lease and a number of other reasons has seen it become economically unviable. Word is it may be the first of many more. Is it the beginning of the end for CPV?

It's pretty good up here, lots of snow to face plant in (twice), with another big fall Guthries might open, plenty up the top, might go for a snowshoe up there after lunch and check it out

No photos sorry cannot remember my photobucket password, why cannot we just upload photo files

Have just had Sunday and Monday morning, perfect weather and snow, cut some first tracks in the bowls Sago even this morning, however it is trying to precipitate at the moment but a well known employee reckons it will turn to snow tonight up here but rain in Perisher
Could put up a short vid of the bowls if somebody wants to tell me how

Hi Bob, it looks as thou you are the only one going to CPV now gauging by the responses on this forum. Fascinating to see how the numbers have dropped over the years both at the resort and the followers on this CPV forum.

    Honest questions .
Did it decline with change of ownership ?
The end of "race week " (and RSA;)) ?
I think the logistics and related costs play a big part , though works in the favour of the devotees & members.
Self having membership elsewhere now so I'm not getting there after many great family years there.

It would seem our lodge is becoming a victim as well (see "save sasc lodge charlotte pass" on facebook and like if you want to) although this appears to be an internal struggle

Heard on the way out that Vail has had people up there and may be considering tendering, which is why NPWS is hanging off any decisions as they have just made a decision not to make a decision till next year although the lease runs out in Oct '17. Would that mean passes could work at either resort or would they try and make it super exclusive and very expensive

I would like to see Kevin keep it personally

The decline has happened since that very bad start some years ago when their snow making was limited, just after Kevin bought it and that has slowed early season bookings up. August is always fully booked

More speed, monorail, but then Charlotte Pass's appeal would lessen for me as I think it's perfect the way it is, no CROWDS and ski from the door of the lodge

Vail would only be interested if they get more skiers or more Condos to sell. They're not getting many skiers out of this, so I'm tending towards Condos. Just pure speculation on my part, but it's how I've observed their business model operate.

    I agree.
It's a very special part of the Country and should be respected and left as such.
Part of the adventure is getting there.
My kids eyes like saucers , in the old yellow submarine cats on a metal bench seat , chugging away up the hill , Deisel fumes .....
It need not be all about having it laid out like a supermarket for you.

Difficulty of getting there & sense of remoteness that appeal to regulars also work as barriers to newcomers.

Marketing and info provision are a dog's breakfast.

It has a company town ethos with the same lack of flexibility. Our way or the highway.

Charlotte's have changed their server setup and no-one can get the images. Images are broken on MW, Weatherzone and Snowatch as well. We have requested a fix.

Hmm, no real trip reports, you might be right Sago, looks good today

Iám in next week so should be able to do some reports in between drinking coffee and alcohol

I bought the movie editing program, if you don't purchase straight away they offer a big discount after about a week and it seems to run good on windows 10

Our lodge is fighting hard to open next year, hopefully we will be successful, funny the NPWS some years ago wanted the place to be closed and be an historical museum, now the've lost so much money managing perisher lodges ( rumour 50 - 60 million over the years) that the're trying to attract an overseas buyer to develop the Perisher Range idea which includes CPV, obviously state gov is telling them to develop, stuff the heritage and green stuff, make some money we cannot keep financially supporting you. Good luck with that and that's why they will not make any decisions regarding the head lease at CPV because they are waiting for pie in the sky stuff, IMHO

Again I hope Kevin is successful and winds up getting it at a better rate, teach them to stop stuffing people around

Had a great week during the last week in July 2016. Arrived Sunday and it didn't stop snowing till Thursday. I think a lot of it was blown off the main range. I can say Mon-Wed was the best 3 days of snow I have ever skied at a resort in Australia and better than half of my backcountry trips. It was a bit windy and a face mask was necessary.

    The good bits:
no problems getting in and out,
    Soft, boot deep snow everywhere,
There would have been maybe 60 people on the hill at any one time,
CPV didn't groom anything until Thursday, which was fine by me,
my girls were in a group lesson of 6 for the week and did not once complain about the deep snow like they usually do.
6 pack of Coopers waiting for me at the shop,
fantastic to see little kids hammering down waist deep in snow,

ALL CPV staff cheerfully helpful, great with the many kids,
good to see a staffer have no hesitation booting one fool off Guthries who pulled the cable off tower 5.

I was planning on going last weekend but my ungrateful daughter decided she'd prefer to attend a 21st with her friends than go to the snow with her old dad... I was gobsmacked :p
Have to be next year. Damn !

Just back from a terrific 4 night stay in CP. Understand now why reports are few and far between. Very patchy internet coverage. Staying on snow appealed this year so I could tag team with Mrs Beast with the care of Mini Beast. Snow was amazing and laid back village feel very relaxing. CP did a $50 day trip deal last year that got me to give it a go. Wise investment as we had 9 of us up this year as a result. PB

Not sure about 50. About 100 is the regular price - ticket, oversnow and hot lunch.
