Charlotte pass weekend before season

I am planning on staying at Charlott Pass this coming weekend, and with some light snow forecast, what are the chances of the road being closed while up there? we are arriving Friday night?

a few years ago, we stay at Perisher this same weekend, and after a 10cm overnight fall, the roads stayed open. but we were not driving down to Perisher from Charlotte. how often does that road get closed, and if it does, do they give you the opportunity to get cars out?

Road is (AFAIK) supposed to be closed between QBLWE and OLWE. I've driven up on QBLWE a few years ago when not enough snow to close the road. I would be checking with R & M or NPWS.

bugger. hope there isn't enough snow on Friday night, Sat is forecast to be clear. though the last time i went this weekend, the road was still covered on about 5 cm of slush, the road was open right to the turnaround, which made for some fantastic shots as no other car was there.

Road was open in these conditions back then. Hope it stays the same. If it is closed. What options are there to get to Charlotte?

I have been at Charlotte Pass on a June long weekend when other guests had driven up and when there was a snowfall during the weekend. The staff were instructed to offer no assistance apart from providing the phone number for Jindabyne tow trucks or chain hire. It was a very expensive lesson for some very angry punters.

The killer bit was the spur road out of the village. If people made it up that they got away. The failed attempts were entertaining. That's where the tow truck came in.

fortunately the only snow forecast is Friday night, we should be OK for a run to perisher on Sat if its fine and sunny.

I can’t remember which year, but not that long ago around this time of year someone went for a hike from the turning circle and parked the car on the road. There was a reasonable storm, road got closed, car was buried a bit, plough clearing the road buried it a bit more. From memory it took a couple of weeks to get it out

Even the oversnow struggles up there. When the snow is soft it usually requires the oversnow to be towed by a groomer.
