First snow for the year this morning. It was quite cold and windy. Snow fell heavily for a while.
I see one of the lodges has had a name change to Lucy Lodge
Might interest someone I know
8k or so views ... one rely . Let’s double it
Nice up there today. Cool and windy up top walking to Stilwell. Bit of maintenance work going on at the top of the chair. Work going on in our club lodge as well.
Bringing back a Chinese restaurant also..ironic that the lodge started of that way.
Never know what or who you’ll come across on a snowy morning!! Stumbled across @rocketboy on the boardwalk.
Cars parked everywhere today almost back to Spencer's cl . The concrete rd to cp village has cars all over it with only 1 lane and no way to tell if traffics coming up or down and no way to pass
Was like that last night too. We got back down around 8pm and still lots of cars parked. Along with a fire engine, ambulance and police. Thought at first we were getting done for parking in the 20 min zone, some recovery/rescue happening.
Almost winter. Overnight snow of a few centimetres.... any more than that and the blardy road up will be shut
raining but trying hard to snow atm, just a couple less degrees and were on
Charlottes Pass - one day before the long weekend 2018.
Love that place...and those snowgums!!!
Arrived yesterday, nice sunny day, ready for the storm. Very gusty with occasional graupel this morning.
Windy and now heavy snow
Lots of windblown filling in tracks nicely. Good 25cm top up. Still windy with poor visibility. Guthrie’s opened yesterday. Challenging conditions with the wind.
What can be said, just Epic.
And gentlemen in NSW now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That skiied with us upon this August week at Charlottes.
Yes - looks awesome... damn...
St Crispin's Day is 25 October, after the season is over.
You amongst it TB Bob? Anyway was good to catch up..we need to align our dates better.. looking forward to your pictures and updates.
Yep. A bit crusty off the beaten track and groomed also slick under the chair but good at Guthries and T bar
Stopped for lunch as you do at CP and 3 or 4 cm fell during that time making it all good again, still snowing now although not as much as this arvo. Wind was tough in places but all in all some nice powder skiing was had for my first day. Not much good for pictures
Hopefully another 10 cm overnight for first tracks tomorrow but it seems the moisture is drying up
Oh well, just another CP day, I managed some first tracks on maybe 20 + cm ALL MORNING. Nearly had a gutser off the cornice face, but managed a miraculous save
Photos, maybe later, although was a bit sunny this morning and now getting some snow flurries whilst eating lunch
Sago, the bowls are really good but took some effort to get out there with the westerly wind
Shout out to CP regulars ... I and several of the Perisher crew are heading up on Tuesday for a CP day trip. I haven’t ventured up to Charlotte’s before. Any tips/must dos/places to avoid? As of yesterday some trails still appeared to be closed ... Advice from those on the ground much appreciated
All will be revealed, patience. You will either love it or hate it but the best time is when snowing or straight after. Turn your watch back 30 years, about Thunderbirds era
CP was our week a year resort when my kids were little tackers. Last time back was around 5 years ago. Looking forward to it.
Getting ready for the oversnow
Trip Report - Charlotte Pass
What a fun days skiing at Charlotte Pass. Managed to bump into @skifree, @Lady Penelope, @chicski and various others during the day.
The day started with the 8am over snow and 30 minutes later we were at the resort.
The weather was a lot better than I expected. There was no sign of any snow and the wind was pretty light.
The cover was firm and fast to start off with, but softened during the day
Skifree and I tackled the cornices a couple of times before lunch.
After lunch we went for a little stroll up to the Stilwell trig marker
Happy to report that my first go with skins on my AT rig went really well
At the end of the day it was time to jump back onto the oversnow and head back to the Skitube terminal.
And a track map of where we were.
Yep, it was a fun day and pretty good value for the $53.
Good work. Carruthers and Kunama Basin looks loaded.
Was a really fun day. I skied with the boys this morning, then caught up with @Lady Penelope who was being escorted by @Tree Breaker Bob. We skied the rest of the day together. Lunch with @skichanger was lovely. All in all a great day out. Thanks for organising everyone
Oh and I got to chat with Ernie Dingo in the lift queue!
I had a very brief chat with Mr Dingo in the bar at the end of the day.
Did you find out what they are filming?
A program for channel 34 (is there a channel 34?) likely to be called destinations. It is more a people program, looking at who you find at destinations more than the destination.
He told me it was for NITV which seems to air on SBS but no details on what sort of program.
Well, everyone else beat me to it with the trip reports! Firstly, I have to agree that the cost of the Groupon ticket to CP ($54) was excellent, considering that it included oversnow transport, lunch (Wonton soup and a choice of Sweet & Sour Pork, Chicken in Oyster Sauce, Beef in black bean sauce, and some vegetarian dish), and a lift ticket. I gave @skichanger a lift up from her home in Berridale and caught up on a lot of advice about Japan in general, and Myoko in particular. Then on my first run down to Guthrie’s High Speed Poma I had the privilege of bumping into @Tree Breaker Bob who fortunately showed me how to load onto the poma (it’s called “high speed” for a reason: several snowboarders were launched off it in quick succession). Bob showed me around the resort and explained (after taking me off-piste ) how he obtained his forum name. Thank you Bob .
Skied and chatted with @chicski, had lunch with @DidSurfNowSki and @skifree, and fretted over the lack of queues at the lifts. A beautiful day with no hint of the forecast showers. What a laid-back, cruisy place - I imagine it would be particularly special after a fresh fall of snow!
Even a few deck chairs for admiring the view up top:
I don’t think you had any choice, considering he stepped on your skis!
Glad we went yesterday and not today; winds gusting >100Km/Hr Thredbo Top Station.
Snagged the best weather. How often does that happen a couple of weeks out?
no interschool races.
End of next week is looking ok...so far
No trip report, salient points have been covered. So just a couple of pics of the MR (see BC Chatter for more) and of @DidSurfNowSki at the summit of Mighty Mt Stillwell.
The bottom pic is actually on the climb but pics always seem to go up in a sequence of their own & not how I’d like.
Not bin night.
Was actually bin day at my place
Tuesday or Wednesday?
Yesterday, Tuesday. Though we put them out Monday night.
So what do the garbos do on Wednesday?
Go somewhere else!
