I'm going to visit my friend in Mansfield during late Oct to early Nov. I'm thinking about doing bushwalking around Mt Buller/Stirling and stay at Mt Buller village.

I'm looking for cheap accommodation, but YHA and Mt Buller backpacker will be closed during that period.

I want to keep cost down. I don't need much, just somewhere I can store my personal belonging, sleep and shower. I'll spend most of my time outside so no need for any extra services/luxury.

Last summer I spent two weeks at Thredbo YHA and found it much exceeded expectation so I suppose any accommodation will do for me.

Anyone has any idea? I really want to to this bushwalking, but without affordable accommodation at Mt Buller it won't happen.

Thank you very much in advance.

Merrijig Motor Inn can be a reasonably priced base in that region. Basic accommodation, short, easy drive to either mountain (Buller/Stirling) with a trip into the Howqua and some hiking around The Bluff as another option. Beware of K***heads in 4wds, however.

I should have added that it has to be on the mountain because I don't have a car. My friend will drop me off on first day and pick me up on last day.
