    Hi
Any suggestions of cheapest open accommodation for 1 adult & one 13yo at Falls?
Many of Falls ski lodges are understandably shut. But if anyone knows any that are open and have 2 person/bed room (with ensuite given COVID) or a studio or 1 BR apartment, that would be great.
From regional Vic & just hoping there may be some snow in next 7-10 days...
And suggestions of best beginner and intermediate XC trails also appreciated
    Thanks

I'm pretty sure Chorki is open. It's a club lodge that takes outside guests. This year with no downhill skiing, it should be a short walk up wombats ramble to the trail head at windy corner.

Last I heard, the only xc skiing now is up high, the mckay loop. It's a slog to get up there but intermediate or easier to do the mckay loop. If it snows then you will have lots more choice. easy trails close to the nordic bowl, sunvalley loop is intermediate. easy options on ropers aqueduct or out along the road to watchbed creek.

Thanks Currawong for accommodation & trail tips.
Have emailed Chorki's. Fingers crossed some of snow predictions for next 10 days are right (& that regional Vic isn't shut down if snow actually falls!) What's slog up to mckay equivalent to? Shorter but steeper than walking up Bungalow Spur to Feathertop? (Haven't got a decent map yet, so can't see distance or elevation gain) Thanks again

just to clarify, you only have to walk a moderate climb. i was told that a few days ago you could ski from junction of wombats ramble and mckay rd (also known as pretty valley rd). wombats is a beginner downhill run. I'm guessing less than 200m vertical, but not checked a map. then it's fairly gradual climb to the actual loop. the steep bit of the mckay rd goes off that loop but would not be groomed. the loop is not steep, but there is a bit of gradual up involved

PV/McKay road is groomed in Ziggy's photo (in reports) just a day or so ago. Also worth trying Alpine Apartments (FC) for a wider range of accommodation options , see website. Next week looks like it could be the goods. Fortunate regional folk might get in a ski yet.

About 300m vertical depending on where you start from.
Easy going. The last pitch up the mountain is on a 2wd road covered with snow (it's the highest point in the country you can drive to, outside of the ski season).

Thanks everyone for that info. Looks like there will be some snow! But also looks likely regional Vic will be shut down < 7 Aug...

I wouldn't expect much from the predictions early in the week - probably just extend the life of existing cover: PV road above Wombats Ramble down to the hut, some of the Mackay loop, and the McKay road up the mountain.
Nelse has got some useful cover visible on the W side and that'll involve some walking.
