MapMapSatelliteTerrain45°LabelsMap: Austria A 58-year-old Australian man has been killed in an avalanche while ski touring in the western Austrian province of Tyrol, rescue services said.

His 79-year-old Austrian companion was also caught in the avalanche in Obergurgl on Thursday (local time).

The Austrian man managed to free himself while the Australian was buried in the snow.

A rescue dog located the man, who was a resident in Austria, but it was too late.

Police noted neither of the men wore an avalanche beeper, which is an emergency locating device.

Warm temperatures in recent days have increased the likelihood of more avalanches in the Alps, with meteorologists predicting unseasonal heat of up to 30 degrees Celsius over the weekend in Austria.

One dead in avalanche in Tyrol
In an avalanche in the free skiing in Obergurgl on Thursday morning two ski tourers have been spilled. A 58-year-old Styrian could only be recovered or dead, police said in Sölden.

The two ski tourers were abzufahren around 10:30 clock while, at the heart of the high Rotmoosferner. You should probably have it even triggered a slab avalanche, according to police in Sölden.

This went on from the avalanche of high courage.
Avalanche dog found dead alpine skiers
Both ski tourers were buried. Both had, according to police no avalanche transceivers with them. One of the country skiers could free himself from the snow. The 58-year-old Styrian was only one and a half hours later by an avalanche dog found to be 1.35 meters beneath the snow. In use were 40 men of Obergurgl Mountain Rescue, the Alpine police and three rescue helicopters.

The use of the rescuers was not harmless, because even during the recovery threatened by global warming and increased solar radiation further avalanches.

Flea Foot shared the information with many this morning.

RIP Christian
A true gentleman and one of the nicest guys you could meet.

Sorry to hear about Christian. A realy nice guy who had a great love for the snow and life. Just got back from Tirol and it was a dangerous season with 6 meters of snow on ground that did not freeze. We will all miss him on Ben Lomond this season. Condolances to his family and friends.

Hi All, just getting to the stage of being able to talk about this awful loss. To Christins family, friends and anyone who had crossed his path you will all realize what a devasting loss his passing is. Our comsolation is that we had spoken on the Tusday night before and he was looking forward to seeing the changes that have taken place over the summer and to instigating some new things for . So we will alll carry on and just speak quietly to him as we know he will be listening.
It has been suggested to us that we should hold some sort of gathering for Christian, any thoughts ??? Flea

I am certain there will be something to honour him at the Bender, Flea. But perhaps a BBQ on the mountain for family and friends who knew him one Saturday, byo own supplies, would be fitting. On the deck of Snowsports, of course.

Thinking of you and Geoff all this time too. Make sure you take care

Hi All,

Indeed a sad time for Ben Lomond and the community who knew Christian.

Perhaps we could name something on the mountain in his honour?

He sure left his mark on many a beginner on the slopes of Ben Lomond.

Thinking of those who were close to Christian.

Adrian.
