Small area of nasty looking winds tucked in behind the low.
40-45 knot winds at best.
This morning- calm before the storm.....
Gee its low tide. Going to be some dust storm when the winds whip up.
Amazing band of NW moisture moving in to SE australia right now been a long time to see something like this, some people from yesteryears would call this 'normal'
Has been good distraction this april anom from every thing else going on atm. CMC thinking a nice injection of unstable moist humid air is part of the package. Bought on by the very cold air moving over a warmer ocean surface causing the instability seen in the sat pics speckle cloud. Sensible heat and latent heat thermodynamics.
Totals don't matter @ this point.
Good post nice piece of information with data at that time.
Kicking off in Radelaide.
10/11mm in Port Lincoln & Kangaroo Island respectively.
Had a big downpour (enough for the gutters to overflow) 15 minutes ago in Franga. Now the sun is out
it was just a tiny cell that formed bayside and slid down that way.
The rain, proper is just scooting through norther suburbs for now.
Cultana (near Port Augusta), SA registering 98km/h gusts. And a 10.4ºC drop in the last hour.
Belting down rain near Bendigo right now. Real wild weather and this might go on for a few hours....
Yep wind starting to build, tallarook ranges
42mm so far today. 72mm since Wednesday.
Still raining too...
And no throw-back/almanac fact (greater than a week)?
Doughnut no more
Autumn to your right, Winter to your left.
I'm shocked tbh. Way beyond expectations. More coming according to radar...
It’s the perfect storm really.
This incredible cold anom, mixed with heaps of available moisture (warm SSTAs surrounding Australia).
Its gonna be a wet year methinks
Let it rain, let it snow. Bring it on. My fires going and lots of Red Gum inside. Might wake to snow on Mt Bogong tomorrow.
Basically nothing today in ACT region, looking forward to its arrival!
55mm today so far and still going... Many streets are flooded according to local newspaper and Vic emergency app.
Cool change came thru this avo
90mm today and still raining...
35mm in just over 2 hours! Epic stuff for your part of the world.
94mm in the gauge. A record breaker.
Buller down to 2.2 degrees. It’s coming.
Been hosing down since 4:30am
No snow on the Mt Hotham and Fall Creek webcams. Can't even see Mt Bogong, it's in the clouds. It's meant to get a lot colder though. My fire's been going all night.
8.4mm/hr and a 1.2ºC temp drop, at Buller. Down to +1.8ºC now.
You'd think this'd be hail/sago at this point.
Certainly looks 'solid' like hail on the village cam.
Yep there’s been occasional hail
So that's 26mm of rain since 2am this morning for Buller.
Cold change arrived—now 6.3° C from 10.2° C at dawn (likely the max for today). Heavy, low cloud and light rain with a fairly strong westerly.
Hotham down to 0.5 degrees. Getting close, a little earlier than expected I think.
11am was the sweet spot on EC.
11C in Mt Beauty now, that's the forecast max. Still raining.
+0.1ºC at Hotham.
Yr.no had it at around 6pm.
Either way, this is very welcome news.
Yeah, EC has those 850mb temps dropping later tonight, but the upper levels (sub -20ºC) are moving through central Vic now.
Not at Moonbah yet. Mainly sunny and windy. Can see the mountain (not in this pic) is getting moisture though.
I think we'll see the FL stick around 1800m all day (hence the temp rise after that last heavy shower), before 850's cooperate later this arvo.
But uppers should support some occ resort snow.
Corroboree Lodge at PV reporting ice and sleet now.....
Starting to look slightly white at Hotham now
Yeah I think the precip will probably be a mix in the upper resort levels, until those more solid surface temps.
Mix, some sort of more solid precip looks like it might be getting down to the bottom of Slalom Gully:
Hotham on the Summit roundshot, a little better than their other cams:
A tad cold, moderate breeze with occasional rain.
