Debit cards for New Zealand?

    Following on from the mobile phone thread, my oldest son is heading to NZ for 2 weeks to board.
    He only has a NAB debit card (no credit card).
    Can that be used in Queenstown?
    What about citibank debit cards (I have one I could lend him...)?

    He’ll need to use the credit card option on the eftpos machines though, it’s amazing how many Australians go for cheque or savings and wonder why it gets declined...

    Yeah you can but it goes through Visa or MasterCard with the associated fees etc.

    Just spoke to NAB.
    Yes, the NAB debit card can be used in NZ, however usual fees and conversion rates apply, including BNZ.

    Best to go with a debit card that doesn't involve the international / foreign exchange fees. Two debit cards I'm aware of that offer this are citibank and Macquarie (I have a macquarie one and highly recommend it)
