Still on the fence about whether it will be worth sliding in this weekend's conditions:

Saturday 4 August

Snow shower or two.
Cloudy. A snow shower or two. Winds northwesterly 25 to 35 km/h tending westerly 20 to 25 km/h during the afternoon.

Sunday 5 August

Summary Min -4 Max -2 Snow shower or two.
Cloudy. A snow shower or two. Winds westerly 15 to 20 km/h tending northwesterly 25 to 35 km/h during the morning.

The forecast HAS reduced from 50km/h winds, but I'm not convinced yet.

Would you go? is snow still snow regardless of the weather? Be nice to get some opinions on if you would brave the forecast conditions before I bother laying down decent money on a 2 day trip with Mrs. K'

Depends which forecast you watch, this is Jane's:
A series of cold fronts are up next, but they are weakened by a high to our north. The fronts pass through early Friday, early Saturday and Sunday/early Monday. The first is weak (it has to overcome the high over us now), but the next two are moderate and bring a little more snow.

The next high comes back on Monday clearing the weather.

How much snow...

1 to 2 cm Friday.

3 to 8 cm Saturday.

3 to 8 cm Sunday and Monday.
http://www.janesweather.com/index.php/alpine

So depends who you want to believe, the base is good (although we need a top up), so if this forecast comes off you could wake up to 5-10cm on Saturday morning and more on Sunday, if not then there is still good skiing around the resort as long as we don't get windhold.

All comes down to the question whether you have the money to take a punt this weekend or want to save it until we get a solid dump.....

The options was either 2 nights at the Golden Age this weekend or a day trip on the following Sunday, or the following sunday after that, or just give up for the season because of difficulties finding a baby sitter

the depth and softness are of little concern to me, there's enough on the ground to slide on, and I'm happy with that. it was more the wind factor and the potential for chairs to go on hold because of it. and that hotham is a formidable place when the winds are up.

but as I said, to those reading and not replying (tut tut!) would YOU go?

oh, and if you're talking forecasts, mountainwatch says 18cm on next Wednesday

Winds are borderline at 25-30kms, but i think windhold would only be summit and roadrunner if it got a little gustier. Plenty of other places to hide....
I'd wait if i had one chance.
Watch what the boys are saying about the next system 8-10th with the weekend to come after that, could be a ripper:

But then again you could find yourself delaying all season and not go at all.....

Pretty much been the same forecast for the whole week...don't know about Hotham but Falls has been cold but great skiing and vis. Were a couple of the usual suspects on windhold on Mon am till mid morning but apart from that lifts have not been wind affected (heard Hotham had some more impact on lift ops on Mon). No 'Blizzard Conditions' in the forecast so I would deifnitely be getting up if I was you.

if those numbers were knots I would be concerned but kph should be fine.

snow shower is such a useless term. it can mean anything from full on blizzard to cloudless blue sky, depending on the shower and weather you are in it.

I'm booked in - so regardless of the conditions, I'll be there! Of course, hoping for the best conditions, but I'll take whatever mother nature throws up

No I'm not Slushii. After our little jaunt down Lindsay's last week perhaps that's not such a terrible thing... :shakesfist:

I reckon Coles Bowl and Chisholms will be next on the list.

Where did you guys actually eat? I might be able to suss them out.

I could just have bacon and eggs but I am not a huge fan of bacon anyway.
