Regulars please excuse a noob question, but is there a bus between DP and Hotham? Have not stayed in DP before. Or am I better off to just drive it (and hope I don't have to fit chains). Do they clear this road after snowfalls? They must, surely, it's GAR.
There is a bus between DP and Hotham, which requires purchase and putting money onto a smart card https://www.visitdinnerplain.com.au/getting-here/bus-service/bus-to-hotham/ If you have a group, a car might be cheaper, and you are not tied to a bus schedule. On the other hand, getting the bus means you don't have to worry about finding a car park
Low season bus timetables have caught me out in the past on more then one occasion it can be an hour and a half between buses so don't be late
If you have an all resorts pass then that's the way to go especially with the low season bus timetable in place. Though the bus is a great option still for skiing Hotham to DP xc.
I was up that way last week. The road was being cleared on week days i.e last Thursday after a nice dry powder snowfall. However September is the spring shoulder season and services kind of back off a bit up there and at Falls Ck. to some extent too.The DP to Hot Ham XC ski trail was good to ski on after the fresh snow fixed it up. I am looking at skiing back from Wire Plain shelter via Big Spur and the Cobungra Ditch Track , Brandy Ck . fire trail and re joining the main XC ski trail at Mother Johnson's Picnic area. That is a longer day tour for August 2020.There is usually weekday parking at JB Plain and Mother Johnson's and Wire Plain. If you have the season pass for all resorts then that makes life easier.
