Driving from Jindy to Thredbo on Thursday and the forecast is for a little snow.
Bit concerned bout driving there as I don't want the hassle of snow chains.
Should I book a transfer shuttle or do you think I shall be okay with the predicted snowfall?
I have driven to ski tube numerous times and never been a problem.
    Cheers

What sort of car do you have?

Thredbo is generally OK without chains, though there have been a couple of days already this season when they have been required. The predicted falls are small and to higher levels, so I would think you'd be ok. Can always hire chains in the morning if they are required. Check out https://www.livetraffic.com/desktop.html (there's also an app) or listen to snowfm for road updates.

Chains were required before the tube on the Saturday 16th June.

So if a good dump is anticipated you'll probably need to be ready to chain it up.

I don't think this Thursday will be a "good dump". Bom have 0-1mm with 20% to 1400m, 0% to 1000m. Not sure what the ski.com boffins think. But apart from ice, that doesn't sound like chains to Thredbo.

Driving in snow isnt an issue as long as you take your time and be sensible.

You probably wont need chains on but carry them just in case.

Rent a set from Jindy BP

Dont let the worry of weather spoil what is typically a pleasant drive

As chicski said, it doesn’t seem too likely that chains will be required to be fitted, and you can always check the LiveTraffic app to be certain.

That being said, depending on your car, you are legally required to carry chains on the drive to Thredbo. I have no idea how often they check, but it’s something to keep in mind. Are you concerned about hiring them or fitting them?

EDIT: apparently I was misinformed and you don’t need to carry them between Jindy and Thredbo, so disregard the above :)

^^agree with this. I was pretty worried before I drove up a few weeks ago because heavy snow was forecast, and it was actually a really nice drive. I did have to fit chains but they were way easier than I expected.

    District forecast off BoM

    Thredbo village is at 1365m

I'd be very surprised if chains were needed, IMO.

    I use snow socks.
Last year drove in the 1 metre dump in mid August and the massive dump first week of September.
They take about 90 seconds to put both on .
Can also drive a little faster than than with chains and they cannot come undone and damage your car.
National parks don't accept them so told them my car is the 4WD version.
