I'd say millions, Blowey. Well at least that's how they were adding up in my head as I drove Tumut - Adaminidiby one moonlit night. They were by the road, on the verges, moonlit silhouettes everywhere. That trip was a trip, man.

They seem to be locking the gates overnight.

Yesterday early in the morning they were closed... then open. But then you posted they were closed again this morning. But they are open now.

Be curious to see if it is closed again tonight.

Is this something they have done before - closed at night during periods of bad weather?

I think that was @snowtyres who posted that one.

Most of my trips up the Alpine Way have been late at night, despite my best intentions.
I've never seen it closed "just overnight".
I'm checking the RMS website daily just to get a feel for it. Trees could come down any time. I don't know what the spring flow has been like, so no idea of landslip probability. NE Vic has had some descent rain dumps ...

The big check for me will be around midday this Friday when I chose between the Hume or the Murray Vly Hwy.

    Sorry - quoted wrong post.

But my msg is still the same. It has been two days now that the gates have been looked early in the morning only for them to open later that same day.

I am curious to see if there is a pattern (i would be surprised if different trees feel down one night after another... in a row)

I had no idea the road was closed so often. I've driven it at night and early morning, clear and in heavy snow and never had a problem in the driving of it.

Okay so LiveTraffic is currently saying the road is open and chains are required

BUT - claiming it was last checked at 4.41pm - so it could be closed now.

    will check in the morning

Monday afternoon around 3pm it was closed. Plow was about to go through and check it. That could take a while though
