Fabulous time at Dry Dam Trails. I didn't find much on the internet so wasn't expecting much but the shelter is good and the trails well marked.

Four trails to choose from.
IMG_20190909_103106.jpg

From my trip today I don't think the map in the shelter is 100% correct but close enough.
IMG_20190909_102319.jpg

Signage is simple and plentiful.

Thanks, I’m keen to have a look. Are the trails mainly flat?

@Sean Sunley & @Mister Tee on XC Skis - thanks for these pics. If NPWS decide we have a 2020 season, will these kinds of trails be open, do you think?...
I am watching what the NPWS service do regarding KNP & XC skiing after the bush fires and CV 19 restrictions are relaxed a little bit.
.The broader area depicted in these photos was turned into charcoal during the fires in Jan. 2020. In fact many huts were destroyed and Selwyn ski resort was wiped out :-(.
I do not know if the NPWS will reopen this segment of the KNP or not for ski touring.
The snow cover and terrain looks fabulous in these pictures so we will live in hope that it can be possible to Nordic ski there in 2020 without being fined or jailed or whatever.

It's a mess up there, fires took out trail markers and trees down all over. Nordic shelters gone.

Thanks for that report. I've been wondering what happened to it and that is the first report on the shelter Ive seen post fires.
Very disappointed to hear that news.
I remember it being busy in the early 90s and tracks groomed and set.
Ive been a few times in the last few years opportunistically when there is good snow and have had the place to ourselves.

I went as far as Providence Portal last weekend, and Ive never seen anything like that bushfire damage. Crowns of the trees burned, huge black logs on the ground. Sorry no pics since I was driving and nowhere seemed safe to pull over. There was a lot of new growth on the gums though, which was good to see. I can only imagine how bad it is closer to Selwyn and Cabra

I went up this arvo, tried to follow the 2.5k which I know pretty well. Unfortunately it's very easy to lose the trail and I don't want to be lost up there on dark.

You got to ski somewhere :) ( we are sorely deprived of snow here so far in VIC .overall ) and your photos are good. Well done. I like it!

Thanks all for the photos and reports - really interesting... How sad about all the bushfire damage & I'm more than happy to keep off these trails while they recover...Do the Dry Dam trails (and similar in KNP) have a volunteer group like Perisher XCountry looking after them as well as NPWS?

if that’s current snow at a modest elevation (14-1500m?) then you’ve done very well.

Poor old Vic only has-site seeing at ~ 1800m.

I think we should rethink our sacrificial mammal choice. Clearly it hasn’t appeased the gods!
