Well, another flight from Sydney to Canberra and I sat next to another cute girl who skis a lot. She had a countdown on her smartphone saying how many days it is to the ski season...

She said it wasn't too early to get the ski gear out to check before the Alaskan trip:metun:

One day I'll find one that is unattached...

@Nozawaman conditions aren't great at PNH at the moment :(

    From fb...

The past two weeks have been nothing short of challenging. Currently high winds are blasting the zone in the 60-80mph range with temps down around the -30F with the given wind chill. Things do change as we all know. The Chugach can litterally change over night. We just need it in the forecast. Current forecast has bluebird cold conditions with winds for another several days...stay tuned

    &

Not skiable, not safe at the moment....Supposed to snow next week, fingers crossed...!

Glad we're not up there at the moment.

    That is a real shame.
Hoping for snow and quick DSNS.

The crew in the other heli in Chile had some tales to tell of 0 day trips in a number of locations. PB and I felt bad for them just in the retelling, and these guys are doing at least one trip a year! I was so looking forward to this trip for you, be a damn shame if it doesn't come off

    Stay positive. You'll be fine.

The DPS crew are further south in Haines at the moment and they're getting some decent runs in.

    Fingers crossed for you.

Apprehensive, worried, happy, frightened, fearful, excited, confident, scared... take your pick.

I think that once I get some skis strapped on I'll be right, but until then...

    Hi DSNS,

Just me being anal, so feel free to tell me to shove it where the sun don't shine but you should always store your boots done up. It keeps the plastics in the correct shape and alignment.

I'm jealous. Have a ball. I'm sure you will.

Hopefully your timing will be perfect. One of the guys from our trip last year is there now with his daughter and another mate and they haven't flown at all. I spoke to him yesterday and they were thinking about bailing and heading back to Mt Hood, Oregon to at least get a couple of days in before he has to fly to NY on Sunday. Tough year for them up there - first the winds and now so much snow they can't get to the zone. As long as you get the windows there's going to be plenty out there next week.

As much as I really want to go back now I'm tempted to stick with the perfect memories I have from last year.

Hope you guys have a blast - post lots of pics and make us all jealous as hell!:D

12500km and 15 hours later I find myself in Vancouver. I've got a bit of time to kill before my Seattle flight. The 'nice' lady at immigration thought it strange that I was just heading into town for a coffee, which I am currently enjoying.

Might go and do some retail therapy at some ski shops as well.

I assume you're staying in Seattle tonight? Downtown? If you don't have set dinner plans and you like modern Vietnamese cuisine grab an Uber and see if you can get a table at Stateside . We also found a great bar close to the Westin called Suite 410 Cocktail Bar - have a couple of Keyser Sozés (mezcal based) That'll get you in the right frame of mind.

I just saw a post Insta from PNH - 6' of snow at Tour Camp this week. If you guys get the window, next week is going to be INSANE. Be careful out there!

That sounds rather tempting, but the allure of getting some sleep without people climbing over the top of you to get to the loo will probably win out.

Might need that bed again, I've missed my flight...

The Alaskan Airlines ticketing system is broken and only 1 person on the assistance desk. I'm in a huge line :(

Unfortunately there's not too many options to get to Cordova. It's either Alaskan or charter plane.

    Oh well, that was frustrating.

The Alaskan Airlines kiosk didn't accept any of my details (and I tried every combination). This is pretty weird as I had reserved my seat on this particular aircraft while back in Australia, As the kiosk didn't accept my details, I got put in the back of a lengthy 2+ hour queue as there were a lot of people starting their spring break in the same predicament with their tickets. Needless to say I missed my flight by a considerable margin.

The ticketing agent then had to take my itinerary into a back room and she came out 30 min or so later and said the best she could do was on a flight tomorrow. I did ask the charter company about their prices, they came back with $19,000 so that isn't an option.

I'm now back where I started today.

On a positive note, the pancakes I just had for breakfast were excellent.

This is only anecdotal, but the tales of woe I heard from Alaskan Airlines passengers about ticketing glitches and luggage delayed upwards of 3 days, when I was in Canada, made Air Canada's service levels look really good.

A couple of weeks ago I was able to use their booking reference for a seat allocation online.
Today their ticketing system didn't know me and it was the queue.
Tomorrow I'm getting there 3 hours before the flight to avoid an Alaskan Airlines rinse and repeat.

    Bad Marty :nono:
