Here are the storms off Sydney a little while ago:

Distant rumbles and flashes to the East. The view is obscured by blowing low cloud.

Some pretty suspect velocity signals just off Avalon beach too. Those nasty storms look to be making their way closer to the coast.

About 15mm in the Drummoyne Dog-o-meter overnight. A little shower passing through again now.

Fairly heavy rain just started here. It’s quite dark. The rumbling seems more distant now - the storm cells are staying out to sea.

    EDIT: Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL

For the coastal strip of Sydney and the Central Coast.

Looks like the offset coast angle to the SSW will keep the major storms away from Sydney at the moment as the storms travel south.

Areas further south of Sydney could be in the path of the storms if they spin inland.

I am hearing distant rumbles off to my SE, so somewhere around the Panania area.

    Storm progs for today.

Nothingt towrite home about so far. Woken up at 6:25 by a short downpour and nothing much since locally and would rather have slept than be woken up for what has not eventuated to much at all locally. Good to see some getting some action.

Nothing here so far in Stanhope Gardens either. My lightning app is detecting strikes 35km away from here.
Looks very dark to the east.
I am very happy for it not to storm today as I will be working outdoors today.

Sydney Metro included within the storm warning. Hard to tell if this is likely to eventuate or if it's just precautionary.

    "Severe Thunderstorm Warning
    IDN21033
    Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
    TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
Severe Thunderstorm Warningfor HEAVY RAINFALL, LARGE HAILSTONES and DAMAGING WINDS

For people in Metropolitan, Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of South Coast, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts.

Issued at 9:05 am Saturday, 31 October 2020.

    Weather Situation:

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, large hailstones and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Orange, Canberra and Goulburn.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Hunter district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

38.8 mm was observed at WOLLONGONG AWS in the 30 minutes to 9:05 am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
    * Move your car under cover or away from trees.
    * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
    * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
    * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
    * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
    * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
    * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
    * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
    * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
    * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
    * Unplug computers and appliances.
    * Avoid using the phone during the storm.
    * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
    * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
    * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 12:05 pm.

If severe thunderstorms develop in Sydney Newcastle Wollongong or surrounding areas or Canberra and Queanbeyan, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in these areas"

I have been eyeing that cell from the ground here in Bondi.
Completely shrouded in low cloud and rain. Bondi Due East 10 mins ago:

Heavy rain is 2-3 km off shore.
Wind is dead still at the moment.

It’s brightened up here and the Sun’s trying to break through, although the sky’s full of blowing low cloud.

I think that’s it here, for the time being at least - distant rumbles and a couple of millimeters. Ingleburn and Ketlyn in Sydney’s outer SW received over 30 mm to 9:00 and it’s all happening further South.

    EDIT:
    Impressive - that’s a very big run-off.

We were woken up by heavy rain at 5am in Berridale this morning. Just overcast now.

Might go for a walk later and see how the creek is going later.

Ulladulla already at 104mms and counting since 9am. Meanwhile over at Sydney a black core just popped up near Warragamba. I'm expecting the STW to be reissued soon for the metro.

We should see STW warnings for much of today in the Sydney Basin IMO.
Humid and stagnate airmass here in the E Subs. Suns out and it's starting to cook.

    Yep.
Largely missed out this morning - just a couple of mm's.
However, the last hour has seen the sky explode. Spectacular development.
    3 rumbles so far.
Lots of static on the radio.

Very Broad STW out, I have to say that after the rain cleared up after 10am, the sun has really got the hammer down in getting us warmed up to 23.7 degrees at Bankstown and 25.1 degrees at Badgerys creek.
