Lunch at the Prince West Ramen shop. Butter corn miso ramen. Make sure you let the chef know you want it Vegetarian or it comes with pork miso broth.
I've spent 10 days there on two trips in Feb. Best place to be in central Japan this season. Got one day of rain, when you never even got wet, while most other places got 20mm + most ways to the top. Last Friday:
Turned into a glorious afternoon! Yakebitaiyama off the Quad 3 Totoro snowman. He had a little tail too! Ice cream at the base of Takamagahara. Looking back at Diamond and Yakebitaiyama from the top of Takamagahara.
Final day’s skiing at Shiga. Quick change and a pack down at Chalet Shiga then tottled off to the bus stop. Ichinose needs a bit of a top up. It’s looking a little melted. And the Nagaden 4.05pm bus back to Nagano.
Certainly a bit of melt at that bus stop since I left from there a bit of a week ago. No skiing on the road now. A bit easier though to drag a suitcase through.
I posted the breakdown before. https://www.ski.com.au/xf/threads/elspikes-2020-sneaky-skiski-shiga-kogen.87082/page-2#post-4196687
Oh no poor hakuba! Got a group of friends just arrived in hakuba. All their Instagram stories were asking the same question: “where is the snow?”
And this ends another elSpike Trip Report. I’m still undecided if I prefer the daily recap or the short posts through the day. It’s not trivial to post the daily summary each evening (valuable sleep time) but posting through the day does disconnect you from the moment a little too. Will ponder. To round out the report. We had sobas at Nagano station at the little shop next to the Nagaden bus stop. We do love their simplicity. Then caught the 18:22 Hakutaka 572 to Tokyo. The sky was a magical blue as we waited in the platform. A couple of hours at the ANA lounge and a very present PE flight back to Singapore where we were both asleep before we took off. In the taxi heading home before I have to head straight to work. No rest for those saving for the next ski trip after all. Speaking of. Barring the world collapsing in the mean time, our next trip will be in Falls Creek, staying at Pretty Valley again from July 12-19. Here’s hoping for an epic early season!

Looks like you made the right choice heading back to Shiga Elspike I went to both Hakuba and Shiga Kogen at the beginning of February and Shiga was the clear winner conditions wise.
