Can anyone tell me what is going on here?

Seems like they've pushed a lot of snow down to the bottom.

Possibly to thin the snow pack higher to make the thaw quicker, so they can start excavating the MTB trails more quickly?

Got rubber-track vehicles to run; avoid churning the ground up?

They are planning on moving some rock into Central Spur for work on the track, might be building a snow road for it maybe. They have thinned Eagle way almost to the track, but that may be for when Kosi closes at the end of the week for service, and Snowgums fires back up.

Thredbo has some restrictions as to how much snow it can move when to speed up snow melt to open the mtb track.

This has to do with not interfering with the natural snow melt rate for environmental reasons. I may need correcting on this simplistic explanation.

I trust this is not chicanery to push the envelope of what they can & can't do.

What @telecrag and @skifree have said.

I think they are clearing as much of the lower section as they can as this is where they do the most ground work so the sooner it is dry the better. TC I reckon they will use other avenues to move the rock up, still on snow but I think the bottom of the super trail needs to dry and dry quick.

Spoke to the dude whose job it is to have mtb ops ready to go in Thredbo when skiing there last week. Yep, spreading out snow is one to make it melt quicker. He also has another trick up his sleeve. A trick so devilishly brilliant and environmentally friendly it is pure genius. Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to repeat it though if anyone is dying of curiosity maybe PM me

I know nothing of these glacier worms of which you speak, but if they clean teenager bedrooms, could you send a few over?

A good mankini is a sure way to reduce the snow pack.
Environmentally friendly, not so aesthetically friendly.

Spread dirt on top of the snow. Lots of heat absorbed.

Will they run the Boxing Day ski race?
