Just looking at our spring discount-trip to Åre 2021 - Swedes might have reached herd immunity by then. (I hope ). Alps - well, no idea!
Be interested to see how this season goes in Europe, with high rona numbers at present due to all the Summer travel. I struggle to see how well Winter can go, until the vaccine arrives. Unlike elsewhere in the World, massive numbers of people arrive by train and bus and transit through busy airports and stations and then onto crowded trains with limited toilets and cafe carriages..
I had a plan to spend a couple of months next year in Europe. It won't be happening and hopefully only on hold for 12 months.
Na. Other issues also having an influence. Will be 21/22 (assuming world is more normal by then) Edit: doesn't mean I wouldnt consider a couple of weeks if borders were open, just not the BIG trip I had planned
You will be lucky to go anywhere apart from maybe NZ or a few Pacific Islands anytime before Easter or mid next year
Crystal have just cancelled all chalet holidays for this winter coming still offering HB hotels and SC apartments could be Covid causes major shift in UK ski holidays. I’m not seeing any chance of getting to the Alps this winter but have qantas credits if situation changes last minute
Link to article about Crystal. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money...2473/Will-able-ski-holiday-Europe-winter.html
Sadly to be expected., Combine chalets with bus transfers, train transfers and staffing, its a Covid nightmare
Above article studiously avoids any mention of what a no-deal Brexit would add to the pandemic disruption to Brits winter holiday plans....!
Not good Plenty of apartments left in the place where we stay in Val D. Never seen this many available this late. Offering 10% off to get people to book

https://www.theguardian.com/travel/...this-winter-ski-resorts-covid-19-restrictions Explains why so much accomodation is not booked in the popular UK traveller resorts like Val D'ISÈRE

The non stop TGV schedules from Paris to Bourg St Maurice came out yesterday for Dec and early Jan. Normally about now fever is high as you try to get the tickets on the train you want and at the best DEAL price.. At this rate I think Europe 2021/2022 will not even happen
https://planetski.eu/2020/10/14/les3vallees-could-see-a-20-fall-in-skiers-this-winter/ Now that's a 20% fall on 19/20 numbers which were a 20% fall on 18/19 numbers. The resorts that rely on the British would suffer hard.. plus the number of ronas in France...
La Via Lattea will be impacted by that for sure and the fact that the local Club Med won't open for the 2020/2021 season won't certainly help.
Reading the what's new for 2020 for Val D'Isère https://www.valdisere.com/en/winter-press-kit/ 42% of visitors last year were from the UK.....
13 lifts are now running at Kitzsteinhorn. https://www.kitzsteinhorn.at/en Covid19 rules https://www.kitzsteinhorn.at/en/service/latest/news-homepage/hygiene-safety
Not sure if to much has changed over the last 6 or 7 years, but someting like 50 % of the entire inbound ski market (non-French) into the French ski resorts is from the U.K . It took a big battering for the 3-4 years after the GFC before rebounding. But they do have a two month window for lockdowns, so hopefully things might get under control, untill the kaos of the Christmas /New Year period.
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/11/07/world/alpine-ski-resorts-lockdown/ So a slight lock down til Early Dec. Can't see it helping that much. This season will be bad Vaccine news in the next few weeks, does it work or not Let's see 438 days until I can ski France again if this vaccine works....
it seems that one of the biggest British tour operators has cancelled bookings for the 2020/2021 season which translates to 10,000 tourists lost for this coming winter season. https://www.lastampa.it/topnews/pri...prenotazioni-persi-10-mila-turisti-1.39512324
Will be a disaster this season for Europe. Last year ended early This year already cancelled at least for now in France and some areas Switzerland going ahead kinda nornal I feel for the small business operators, employees of hospitality and ski school staff and everyone impacted I miss my 6 year old being on skis again as she missed out this year in Aus as well. Such a good age for kids to ski IMO Still cute and not old enough to be too annoying. At least she will still be fun to ski with for a few more years.. The boy will learn to ski in Val D'Isère in 2022 when he is 4. Same as her sister did when she was 4
Paradoxically if things could go back to "normal" during this winter, for the locals it will be a very enjoyable short season. I can imagine a few of the biggest European resorts being basically deserted the like of I saw during the Uni years when I could afford go snowboarding on Monday mornings!
