After a dry spell, serious snow next week for Alps. We are flexible to go anywhere and will decide and book today.
It's still quiet in Euro-ski-land and last minute accom is pretty easy to book.

Widespread snow is forecast, but a bunch of areas in France, Austria and Italy may get nearly a metre of the stuff.
Not to whinge, but almost too much for off-piste next week as the av level will shoot up, off piste will get a bit creepy.

Yes, a high quality problem. Most areas have a big base and this system is great for anyone arriving Feb onwards.

Much needed. Many valleys that are usually snowy are rather grassy. As one local in Samoens said last Friday: this is what April normally looks like.

Weather looking much more “dynamic” coming into Feb, which is a nice change from the boring blocking highs of Jan.

good snows at the moment over the resorts, will warm up a bit leading into the weekend (rain on the lower slopes), and then a couple warm fine days. (High avy danger)

mid next week looking interesting again with models (both the Americans and Europeans) throwing up cold snowy weather.

    fingers crossed.

Snowed lightly in Munich overnight but the warm spell is on the way. Rain at altitude on the weekend.

Still chucking it down a La Thuille. Top half closed all day. A nice slab release under the Gondola. With all the wind they’ve had it is somewhere between 50cm and 80ish in the last two days

There’s a system on Tuesday but after that, things get real zonal and a warming trend move in over Europe.
Not great after mid-next week, with some spring-like warmth too IMO.

Longer range has been showing another decent fall around 10th and 11th. Has been there for a few days now.

10/11th looks like a lot of rain below ~2200m, IMO.

    Hi Euro crew
We've had to rejig the Teleroo family's planned Jan 2021 ski trip from Oberjoch Bavaria to Kufstein/Skiwelt in the Austrian Tyrol. Never been to Europe before but have been watching webcams to judge what snow conditions are like. Skiwelt seems to have reasonable cover. But how would the season to date in northern Austria and Europe in general be judged? My impression is things are a bit light on overall but seems to be quite a lot of local variation in Euro Alps. Bit of a blocking high scenario for most of Jan now transitioning to some warmth and rain?

Doesn’t look too bad via the Americans, but will flip flop being this far out

    Firstly I’m no weather expert.
It appears this season so far has not been a banner year for Europe generally. They do a great job maintaining the pistes though - excellent snowmaking and grooming. We all want fresh snow but at least you’re pretty much assured of having plenty to ski on in Jan, Feb and March in most of Europe.
I’m likely to be there next January too. Think positive. It’s going to be great conditions!

Might be better to go to Zell am Ziller. You have the higher areas of Zell/ Gerlos, Mayerhofen and the Hintertux Glacier.

Yeh I know Skiwelt isn't the highest elevation area but Kufstein was where I could get a house swap. Seem to have lots of snowmaking and looks OK this year. ZAZ is 60km away from Kufstein, so doable for the odd day I guess. Will have kids in tow so easy access is the go.

Currently thick flakes falling above 2000m (Champoluc). At 1900m it’s still snow but it’s wet. Haven’t been below that since this morning.

Raining hard in Chamonix. Went to Grand Montets and they said it was raining at the top and they were thinking of shutting. 50 Euros to ski in the rain? Hanging in Chamonix trying to resist the urge to blow the budget on all the GoreTex here.

Wet night in Saalbach. Drizzle this afternoon has turned to proper rain now. May take a drive to the Kitzsteinhorn tomorrow. Should be snowing there hopefully.

Tomorrow could be grim. Snow line will drop quickly over monday night though. Likely to be snowing a lot above 2500m though.

Well the last two days blew chunks. I was hoping that if I found ski hills high enough (Chamonix, Les Arcs) that it might be snowing up top. Instead two days of rain.

*disclaimer - basing this off forecast sights and no understanding of models” - but looks to be something through first half of next week? In Austria from Friday and wondering whether to bother with wider skis given warm weather predicted Sat/Sun.

Looks like some decent snows rolling through middle of the coming week.

    You can thank me later.

Except for the fact I’d prefer bluebird for the ski test.

For once I’m the same. This trip is more family piste cruising than pow chasing. While the snow forecast for me looking amazing for the 3Vs first week March my 75yr old mum is not going to enjoy the visibility, wind and storms.

These days I’m definitely an equal parts snow and bluebird fan.

Theres some good about just being able to see.

I’ve had very few thigh/waist deep pow days in Europe but countless boot deep bluebird days, it works well over there.

When I feel like I want to ski waist deep in the trees during a storm I’ll head to Utah/Wyoming or Japan.

Pleasantly cool at Grenoble airport, snow smattered hills at a low level around the airport and looks like could be snowing up higher. Be in the 3Vs in 3hrs so will have more info on conditions on the ground.
