Been snowing nicely for the last 3 or so hours here in Chamonix and only just stopped now. Probably around 8 centimetres settled in the village

Arrived in Mürren today. Quite snowy. Hopefully easing tomorrow so I can get up high to scope some things out. Very light and fluffy snow. Cold.

Northern Alps coping it. Some AUT resorts have picked up over 90cm in 3 days.

Sun, Mon, Tues next week looks bloody amazing for more significant snowfalls through the Northern Alps also - CH & AT particularly. Some resorts will see 100cm+ in a 24-32hours window Sunday evening.

Tyro is going to get puked on.

Just for something different then? Maybe they could train some down to France, plenty to spare?

just out of galtur near ischgl which was snowbound yesterday (road closed). With more snow on the way the problem for Austrian resorts is too much of the stuff! Now in Innsbruck and seems that many of the adjacent ski areas are closed or limited due to avalanche risk. Heading for the dolomites which has seen little due to Foehn effect but looking forward to some clear skies at least. Interestingly despite significant powder depth very few people on powder skis, most seem to be on narrow carve skis. As pauline would say..please explain...

The reals deal kicks off in the next 12-15 hours for AUT. Looking big.

An extract from my latest long range outlook below.

"My overall view is that from the last week of Jan to the second week of Feb, will feature major snow risks for the Southern Alps and the UK. There will be plenty of cold around, but not so much snow for the Northern Alps. We should see a neutralisation in the later stages of the month."

@Jellybeans1000 So you're forecasting Genoa Lows and snow for Southern Alps for the next few weeks.
Sounds good but how much snow are you talking about?

To use the traditional meteorological terms, which is more likely for Southern Alps?
....a nice top up..... fills in the mogul fields.....waist deep.... Hokkaido.....Thredbo Marketing

I can't quote actual numbers, only anomalies at this range. But what I am seeing is a few big dumps of snow, and top ups on the way too. Probably closest to Hokkaido, not waist deep probably.

You're making my job difficult. We are trying to decide between Italy or heading north around Jan 26.
    Weird year.

Hmmm... the vibe is for the Southern alps, going forward, but the Northern Alps have a massive snowpack, and should get some topups here and there.

If you taking it off the next 10 days, you would be heading to the Pyrenees. Or further down the Italian Peninsula.

FWIW the largest resort in the Pyrenees is open with just a 20 inch base (only 4” fallen since the 20th Dec).
Bit of a gamble suggesting the Pyrenees is the place to be in the next fortnight, even if it picked up a foot.
Ever skied it? It’s horseshit on a bad year.

Don’t get me wrong, some great systems on their way for the Alps in general. Even Northern Africa should get a hit.

I said based on the next 10 days EC forecast, but sorry if it was taken the wrong way. It wasn't really my goal, the Alps is still the best place to be.
